'Too Bright', the 3rd album from Perfume Genius is out one week from tomorrow (September 23) and is streaming in full today via NPR First Listen. NPR's Jacob Ganz, while suggesting the Adrian Utley / Ali Chant helmed-recording was "designed to overwhelm", calls Mike Hadreas' masterwork, "awe-inspiring".

Jamaican lamb curry with rice and peas.
Both recipes are from Simply Recipes. My butcher was out of goat so I substituted lamb shoulder on the bone - I had him saw it into chunks. I followed the curry recipe fairly faithfully, simply increasing the number of habaneros to 3. For Jamaican curry powder, which is made from roasted whole spices and includes allspice, mustard seed and anise in addition to the more usual Indian ingredients, I followed this recipe. My coconut milk was Aroy-D.

It takes some gumption to put out a song like this on September 11th, especially as it explicitly references the World Trade Cener attacks and identifies 9/11 as the day that has shaped the direction of the world in the 13 years since the Twin Towers came down. Last week the New Pornographers launched their new album Brill Bruisers with a memorable concert at the Brill Building, the historic home of songwriting tradition in New York City's Times Square.

Last Friday, Georgia Hubley's Little Black Egg project expanded into a larger improv ensemble at Raleigh, NC's King's Barcade, joined by Ira Kaplan, James McNew, Steve Gunn, William Tyler, and featuring prerecorded elements provided by Letha Rodman Melchior. Melchior, a sound & visual artist with a rich history including but not limited to playing in NYC's Ruby Falls and numerous works under her own name, has been battling stage IV melanoma the last few years, at considerable financial hardship.
