"Knitting on the Roof" is the latest compilation from the
Knitting Factory
Records imprint. Here's the premise: rockers do "Fiddler
on the Roof." This is for real, folks. Come is featured
with "Do You Love Me?". Other artists include the Residents,
Negativland, the Magnetic Fields, Eugene Chadbourne and DJ
Spooky. Just think if your high school had done it this cool.
In other Come news: Chris Brokaw will be playing 2
"Solo Electric Guitar" performances opening for Nobokazu Takemura
and Brokeback: November 24 at Middle East in Cambridge and
November 27 at Upstage in Philadelphia. See Thrill
Jockey for more information.

GvsE (Good
VS Evil) is the USA Network's latest foray into hipster
programming. The show has been described as Pulp Fiction meets
Buffy, but I'd probably call it any hyperstylized Saturday
afternoon UPN show meets some other overly dramatic teen WB
show. Point is, pay attention to the music in the August 1st
episode (8:00 PM) if you happen to catch it. Then try to match
the songs to the credits. Find Nightmares on Wax, Come,
Boards of Canada and burger/ink. Now listen
for something strikingly similar to JSBX's "Calvin."
See if you can spot "Magical Colors." Sounds awfully familiar,
doesn't it? Now look for a JSBX credit. Let us know if you
find one.

Smith, Cadallaca, Hazel, Poison Idea, Geraldine Fibbers, Lydia
Lunch, Prolapse, Kristen Hersch, Soul Junk, and Dead Moon.

In New York-area news: One of the two Half-Cocked directors,
Mike Galinsky, will have photographs on display at CBGB's
Gallery, starting March 3 (6-8pm, free wine!). The show commemorates
the release of Galinsky's new book, Scraps, which includes
writing by Tim Foljahn, Cynthia Nelson, Tara Key, Tae Won
Yu, Alan Licht, and a bunch of other rockers....and there's
also a CD....Also, Mr. Galinsky and the other Half-Cocked
director, Suki Hawley, have a new film out called Radiation
that, as you may recall, stars members of Come. It's
screening as part of the New York Underground Film Festival
on Thursday March 11th at 7:45 p.m. at the Anthology FIlm
Archives with a party afterward at CBGBs (with COME, Two Dollar
Guitar, Sleepyhead, others).

Tour action: 18th DYE will reunite for a few European
dates in March to celebrate an upcoming compilation on Ché
Records... Chris and Thalia from COME will be playing
at Mulligan's Irish Pub during the Sundance Festival. They
also happen to star in Radiation,
the new movie by Suki Hawley and Michael Galinsky (Half-Cocked),
which will play during the fest... THE FOR CARNATION
is going out on the road soon, as is LIZ PHAIR, who's
playing a bunch of dates with Alanis Morrissette.
