Anyone love Jazz AND Pavement

I work for a new, NYC record label called Brown Brothers Recordings. This past September, we had 4 days of recording sessions at Jimi Hendrix' Electric Lady Studio B in New York at which top jazzmen James Carter (saxes, sousaphone), Cyrus Chestnut (keys), Reginald Veal (bass) and Ali Jackson (percussion) recorded an albums-worth of Pavement tunes and one Ali Jackson original. The album is almost completely mixed (by Ryan Hadlock, of Pig Lib fame, among others). We are in negotiations with the design firm which did the packaging for Lou Reed's "Set the Twilight Reeling" and the rectangular Talking Heads box set to do some special packaging for the cd, which will be released next year and include a "making of" video. We are currently putting together a release/tour schedule and would love some feedback. We will choose the first 50 or so replies for advance listening, sequencing and marketing input privileges and maybe a freebie of some sort. If you are interested, email me at jake@brownbrothersrecordings.com or check out our website at brownbrothersrecordings.com. Thanks for reading. The tracks recorded are: 1) My First Mine; 2) Here; 3) Summer Babe; 4) Cut Your Hair; 5) 5-4=Unity; 6) Stereo; 7) Blue Hawaiian; 8) Platform Blues; 9) Folk Jam; and 10) Trigger Cut.

Btw, this is legit. Some serious jazz musicians on this recording. One of the odder things I've ever heard.

Thanks and the future

Many thanks to all who replied. We have now filled our needs for what we are calling our "Gold Sounds Army". We have sent all of you who made the cut one final mix (Platform Blues. If you did not receive it, it is because your email box did not accept it and returned it. Please provide an alternate email address with enough space and we will gladly re-send it.) We will be in touch with future requests regarding the album and future posts in this thread and the identical one on Stephen Malkmus' board regarding future progress of the album, which is tentatively scheduled for a Spring, 2005 release. The next step: Trigger Cut (Wounded Kite), Cyrus Chestnut solo piano version, will be streaming on our website (www.brownbrothersrecordings.com) within 2 weeks. As soon as it is up we will post here and at Matador. NOTE: IF YOU LIVE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING STATES OR JAPAN, IGNORE THIS POSTING AND FEEL FREE TO APPLY FOR A SPOT IN THE GOLD SOUNDS ARMY: CALIFORNIA, TEXAS, FLORIDA OR ILLINOIS.

I was replaying it over and over again. It's startlingly good. I enjoyed Platform Blues but not nearly as much as Trigger Cut. I showed it to some other people and they all agreed it was really well done. EXCELLENT JOB!

Influential New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones posted a high compliment to the Gold Sounds album on his blog which you can check out at http://sfj.abstractdynamics.org/archives/004944.html

Lukas, sorry for the confusion, but Gold Sounds will be MENTIONED in the April, 2005 issue of Downbeat. The cd will not be available until its commercial release in May or June. We will keep you up to date on the street date in Canada and which retailer will carry the cd. Downbeat should be available in any magazine store which carries a large selection of foreign magazines.

Any news on the release date? And as I live in the Netherlands myself, will it be available online somewhere with international shipping available, like at cdbaby or insound?
