if by “hacked” you mean “run by incompetent morons who decided $15 a month was enough of a premium to pay for a $12 million political campaign receiving national attention,” that is. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

from Michael Cooper and John Markoff in today\’s NY Times :
The Web site consultant employed by the Lieberman campaign said yesterday afternoon that the network went down after being deluged by server queries.
“It’s like trying to drink from a fire hose,’’ said the consultant, Dan Geary, whose one-person company, Geary Internet Services, is based in Las Vegas. He acknowledged that he was not an Internet security expert.
Mr. Geary disputed claims made by Lamont supporters that the Lieberman site was running on a cheap Internet service that did not have enough bandwidth. He said that shortly after the campaign began, a video of a bear cub had overloaded the site, and as a result he put the campaign on a custom plan that could handle increased traffic.
The Lieberman campaign had access to 200 gigabytes of data capacity a month, he said, a figure that is significantly higher than the capacity of 10 gigabytes a month, which had been cited by Lamont supporters.
Mr. Geary said that claims by Lamont supporters that the site was being run by a single, inexpensive computer were also inaccurate. He said that he had contracted with a Dallas-based Web company, Server Matrix, as the host of Joe2006.com. Executives at Server Matrix did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Of course, Matador has never had any server issues during our illustrious history. Not once has our website gone down, bulletin board disappeared or data been lost. And with that in mind….I\’m mulling a Senatorial bid in the state of Connecticut. I was born there..and I\’m pretty sure Lyle can put in a good word for me with Jane Hamsher.

Daily Kos has quite a different take on the matter. The mainstream media is going with the bizarre theory that the Lamont campaign sabotaged the site (even though the Lamont campaign posted a mirror of the Lieberman site once they were made aware of the crash), despite copious evidence that Joementum didn’t bother hiring competent people.
Which of course won’t be a problem at Matador any more! *knocks on wood*

Fear not, though, as apparently Joe’s got a new web presence.

ugh (from the New York Times:
“If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England,” Mr. Lieberman said at a campaign event at lunchtime in Waterbury, Conn. “It will strengthen them and they will strike again.”

wow.
I think even the Labor Party would’ve wanted to wait,I dunno, 24 hours before trying to make political hay about this foiled explodo-deluxe plot. Short of rush releasing the “United 93″ DVD, how much more desperate can you get? Nice to know the Senator isn’t above exploiting the public’s anxiety.
