i’m disappointed to see that dan penn’s “dark end of the street” has been dropped. i really enjoyed hearing it at the show last month.

same here.

So, how does one get the bonus disc? Order from you guys? or available anywhere if you buy it close to when it comes out? either way, i am fucking excited.

You’ll be able to preorder the deluxe version from here early next week… and it will be available in stores nationwide on release.

I know a lot of people (myself included) were hoping that a full length version of “How Can I Tell You” would be on this album. De Beers shouldn’t have used this song if there wasn’t a full length version, it just ends up frustrating those of us who fell in love with the song as performed by Cat.

>>De Beers shouldn’t have used this song if there wasn’t a full length version <<
I’m pretty sure she was commisioned (and paid) to sing that song for a standard 30 second commercial only… so unless they made their commercial 3 and 1/2 minutes long, theres was no reason for a full version
November 8th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
thank you, RT. For BEING THE FIRST PERSON TO EVER WRITE TO THE MATABLOG WITH A REASONED RESPONSE TO THIS FUCKING DIAMOND COMMERCIAL THING.
ok. I’m gonna go for a walk around the block.

“How Can I Tell You” will be on the super deluxe edition (packaged in a more marketable slipcase) to be released six months after the original release date.

Jake,
we resemble that remark.

A day after New York City came up with a $1,000 bagel, a local restaurateur unveiled a $25,000 chocolate sundae on Wednesday, setting a Guinness world record for the most expensive dessert.
Stephen Bruce, owner of Serendipity 3, partnered with luxury jeweler Euphoria New York to create the “Frrozen Haute Chocolate,” a blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the most expensive and exotic from around the globe.
The dessert, spelled with two Rs, is infused with 5 grams (0.2 ounces) of edible 23-karat gold and served in a goblet lined with edible gold. At the base of the goblet is an 18-karat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds and a download access code to Cat Power’s “How Can I Tell You,” released on Matador Records.
The sundae is topped with whipped cream covered with more gold and a side of La Madeline au Truffle from Knipschildt Chocolatier, which sells for $2,600 a pound.

Is the ‘deluxe version’ CD only? Will there be a deluxe vinyl version??
November 12th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Beautiful photo!!! and of course looking forward to this!!!
November 13th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Yes, deluxe vinyl version as well. No MP3 coupon though – with all the publishers involved for the many cover songs, we can’t get permission.
November 14th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Permission? Whatever happened to compulsary licensing?
November 15th, 2007 at 5:39 am
Cool. Thanks!
November 15th, 2007 at 11:50 am
Jake,
a compulsory license only applies to the “selling” part of the process. We cannot give away an MP3 of another publisher’s controlled compositions without their OK. We’re already paying mechanicals for the versions on the LP and CD — if we had to pay twice (ie. once for the LP or CD, a second time for the MP3’s)…well, let’s just say that while money-is-not-our-god (always wanted to quote Killing Joke in the year 2007) we do intend to, y’know, stay in business.

as much as you cliche “anti-mainstream” folks may try to deny it, the ‘how can i tell you’ song should be made into a full length version. it got me investigate who cat power was all about. not all of her fans are hard core, both literally and commercially
January 1st, 2008 at 4:44 pm
this has nothing to do with being anti or pro mainstream. You’re ascribing some kind of ethos or manifesto to the artist that is totally in your mind.
Chan and Chan alone determines the content of her records. Not the record label. Not some diamond company or advertising agency. While I don’t think Ms. Marshall would ever go out of her way to disappoint her fans, new or old, I think it is to her credit that she’s not going to pander to any of them, either.

No, you can still preorder! The direct link is here:

(not sure whether you’ll have to cut and paste that into your browser, or whether you can click directly)

So, curious, was Fortunate Sun removed for licensing reasons or artistic reasons? This seems rather, ah, unfortunate.
January 6th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Chan’s choice. It will, however, be available as a special bonus to people who buy the CD at Borders in the first part of this year, and subsequently will be available separately as a digital single.

As obsessed as you doofs are with acquiring the full version of “How Can I Tell You”, I don’t think you should pollute blogs that real Cat Power fans are interested in reading.
I’m so excited and tickled about new Cat Power.
P.S. If Chan ever wanted to raise a ton of money for charity, I’d record 45 seconds and charge like 20$ for it. There’s a sucker born every minute.
