As obsessed as you doofs are with acquiring the full version of “How Can I Tell You”, I don’t think you should pollute blogs that real Cat Power fans are interested in reading.

I’m so excited and tickled about new Cat Power.

P.S. If Chan ever wanted to raise a ton of money for charity, I’d record 45 seconds and charge like 20$ for it. There’s a sucker born every minute.

this has nothing to do with being anti or pro mainstream. You’re ascribing some kind of ethos or manifesto to the artist that is totally in your mind.

Chan and Chan alone determines the content of her records. Not the record label. Not some diamond company or advertising agency. While I don’t think Ms. Marshall would ever go out of her way to disappoint her fans, new or old, I think it is to her credit that she’s not going to pander to any of them, either.

as much as you cliche “anti-mainstream” folks may try to deny it, the ‘how can i tell you’ song should be made into a full length version. it got me investigate who cat power was all about. not all of her fans are hard core, both literally and commercially

Jake,

a compulsory license only applies to the “selling” part of the process. We cannot give away an MP3 of another publisher’s controlled compositions without their OK. We’re already paying mechanicals for the versions on the LP and CD — if we had to pay twice (ie. once for the LP or CD, a second time for the MP3’s)…well, let’s just say that while money-is-not-our-god (always wanted to quote Killing Joke in the year 2007) we do intend to, y’know, stay in business.

Yes, deluxe vinyl version as well. No MP3 coupon though – with all the publishers involved for the many cover songs, we can’t get permission.
