It’s been more than ten years since I’ve worn the equivalent of white vinyl shavings from the grooves of my What’s up Matador 2CD sampler. Interesting to note the staying power of the label’s stalwarts and the well rounded variety of acts being developed then and still now. look it up. Oh yeah, Thanks Matador! Again and again.

Another Merci from France ! You’ve just showed the other record companies that not only were you a highly respectable one with great choices of artists but also a generous and praiseworhty one knowing how to make your “customers” (or rather listeners) faithful to the artists you produce.
March 21st, 2008 at 2:18 pm
…already in heavy rotation.
thanks!

Thanks for all the good vibes, folks. With regard to eitzel’s comment, we do of course still need “customers” to stay in existence… record labels only make money by selling records; other revenue streams such as income from live shows, selling merchandise etc. go directly to the artist.

Matador est Le label internationnal le plus couillu au monde.
Thanks Matador for being what you are.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Hello and Bravo.
But why did you choose “matador” which evokes the bullfight, a practice cruel to animals?
Sincerely
March 25th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
The name was culled from the Pedro Almodóvar film, “Matador”. Our salute to a surrealist sex comedy should in no way be construed as an endorsement of animal cruelty.
The term “Matador” and the the associated imagery are all a part of the popular cultural lexicon. We are in no way responsible for glamorizing animal cruelty any more than a basketball announcer might be in referencing “matador defense”.

Thanks for the download and the interesting content.
Have to say, the very lo-fi quality of tracks 1 and 2 nearly put me off – but remaining sounds enjoyable and very welcome concept. Cheers !

You guys are great. Some of the artists I love, some I’m familiar with and others are new to me. Thanks for doing this, no doubt it will open my ears to new artists who will benefit along with those it will make me want to buy more of (Mission Of Burma!) Cheers!
