Purchase students funded Culture Shock 100% with a student activity fee – it was not not out of NYS taxes.

Sounds totally shitty. the police were fuckers in this case. they were probably pissed they played a song called Police. i love that Damian kicked the barriers down. i wish they could’ve all jumped the stage right then and burned the sawhorses. but im kinda glad it didn’t cuz then i would have had to be there. next time.

As a Jadakiss AND Fucked UP fan– and a tax paying resident of ** NEW YORK STATE ** … who paid for this fiasco? I “hope” some SUNY/Purchase-ian can explain how the financial structure of private events at a public university. (In most states, residents of a town or city, for example, are even allowed library and gymnasium cards because, of course, they have been paying to for the facilities for years.)

I agree with Jonathan. Culture shock is meant for us (afterall, all the money for it comes out of OUR activity fee). Security was over the top because in previous years, we’ve had serious vandalism/theft issues (I mean computers and the such, not artwork).

I think everybody pretty much agrees (esp. those of us that organized this years Culture Shock) that the way the police (esp. County POs) handled FU was pretty inappropriate. I wanted to see the mayhem continue.

That said, I think you’re missing something with your perception of our school, the event, and what they’re about. I mean, I apologize for our shitty beer selection (your fault for not bringing a “water” bottle), and if you had to deal with “frat guys” I can only say that they probably came in from off campus too.

Culture Shock is really for us though. It’s kind of a “deal with it” situation. I hope you had fun, but not “hope” in the sense that I’d actually be disappointed if you didn’t.

I guess i’m just a little curious why anyone outside of Purchase gives a shit? It’s NOT a public event. I mean, we’re legitimately upset, but i just feel like it doesn’t really matter beyond that.
