Save The Date : Sonic Youth – ‘The Eternal’, ‘Buy Early Get Now’ Preorders Begin March 24
March 3rd, 2009 at 9:21 am by The Management(all SY photos in this post by Chris Habib)
As announced previously, the new Sonic Youth double LP/CD/digital album, ‘The Eternal’ is coming out on June 9. However, the album will be available to those taking part in Matador’s Buy Early Get Now campaign on April 28.
Along with your preorder of ‘The Eternal’ on LP or CD, you’ll get an instant stream of the album when BEGN launches on April 28, and later (either picking it up at your fave local record store or through the auspices of the U.S. Postal Service) a bonus limited edition live LP* culled from Sonic Youth’s July 4, 2008 show in Battery Park at the River To River Festival, which will contain an exclusive poster. Additional MP3’s will be delivered via the BEGN site before or after the album’s physical release date (June 9).
The album can be preordered from a trusted local retailer starting March 24 or directly from Matador on April 28.
A separate but equally thrilling variation on Buy Early Get Now for our friends in the United Kingdom and other territories will be announced in this space shortly.
*- while supplies last
Though we’re keeping a rather tight lid on the musical contents to ‘The Eternal’ between now and late April, there’s a somewhat truncated preview that’s just been posted at Newsweek.com.

How does the Buy Early Get Now campaign work? Do I just go to your website on April 28 and preorder the album, or do I need to sign up earlier somehow? Please let me know how it works because I would like to order a copy of “The Eternal” from you as soon as possible!! Thanx!!

How soon before the this Buy Early Get Now for this release will be available in the UK?
I’ll probably pre-order through a UK online retailer. Which ones will be participating? Will the bonus LP be vinyl or CD (I’d prefer CD)?
The preview sounds great!
Thanks,
Jason.

Is Kim Gordon design the cover artwork too because it looks like “Chronicles Vol2″ a book I shelved w/ Free Kitten recordings and a book which is a full lenght psychic adventure in itself, wait for the stereo version

Does BEGN vinyl includes mp3s of LP tracks?

No Mat Kim Gordon didn’t design the artwork this is another artist as I saw the paintings details signature, and yes I hopefully think we will be able to put our 45 rpm record straight into the car boombox

the cover art is by John Fahey.

I was trying to read that cover art signature. I was hoping it was John Lilly, of course he’s dead now, but it does look like the “center of the cyclone.” oh yeah……

It’s a painting by John Fahey (R.I.P.)

The album (as a full lenght preview on BEGN) is damn perfect the return to pure noisist sources of inspiration, more freedom in the composition evolving, (I save a peice for later)
It s exactly like this KG painting blue yellow (on chronicles vol.2, an abstract expressionist modern paintings) I can hear the sirens from the SYR come for me
This is almost subversive in a sense (anti orgasm in the top ten list immediatly)
Well I wait for my piece of wax (I planned to listen to Side C and D maybe later but I assure you there is some good sound to roll over the floor
