Makes perfect sense that Terror Twilight should be under-represented, given that it's the band's least interesting album. The two stand-outs, The Hexx and Carrot Rope, are too monotonous and over-played, respectively.

Great collection!

Matador should have done two discs. With a band as rich and diverse in great songs as Pavement there is no way you're gonna please everyone (especially us die-hard fans) with just one disc. Wowee Zowee is an underrated album and is underrepresented. They could've included at least one more track from Twilight as well, though if they were gonna put the hexx on it I think the version from the brighten reissue is superior.

Mellow Jazz Docent + lack of Major Leagues/Carrot Rope + Picket Fence over Painted Soldiers = not a best-of by any stretch.

In wasting time going back through the Pavement catalog (something I never thought I'd be doing in 2010, after getting rid of all my Pavement vinyl c. 1998, believe me...but the bad penny always comes back) in the service of this tempting contest, I've noticed one thing (among others): Brighten has a lot of good songs. Yes, wowee was full of good, odd stoner rampages of various provenance (was very disappointed on first buying it that side 4 was blank...no backwards fondue recipes, nuthin!), and Brighten was the sober, "grown-up"(?) (re:staid, quiet and civilized) "reactionary" follow-up, almost too easy on the ears. But a lot of strong songs, in the sense of ,say, "composition", traditional structure, etc. Just seemed de-balled at the time, compared to wowee. surface-y, but good songs...

BTW, although i didn't fall for the ruse of choosing between the two "Type Slowly"s, I didn't fare too well. Caught between my favorites and trying to guess the likely commercial angle...

This is a poor track list. It is slanted, yet not...nevermind. It pays no rounded tribute to the band. All this talk about a mix that goes back to their scratchy cool beginnings, forward to their rich, layered, warmer, later, what-ever-you-said stuff, well, it didn't happen. Very one-sided Pavement (don't get me wrong, I love your choices, but the people buying this are not Pavement fans...they already have this stuff). I give this mix a 3 out of ten. 4, if I wasn't so sour grapes about losing the contest. Rock on Matador!

I didn't come close, but impressed with two songs off 'Watery, Domestic' (and not the one I thought you would include NOR my personal favorite from the EP.)

Maybe there should be a prize for having the most songs in common with Flavio (that wouldn't be me either!)
