“Somewhere I saw faces and hands fighting for space on a clock / It didn’t show time being precious as silver and gold / Proving us we’re wrong all of us move on / We go for a ride we slow down and die / We have to give up the things we love sometimes”
“Adult” is the third track we’re sharing with you from Ceremony new album ‘Zoo’, out March 6. You’ll find it opening the b-side to Zoo, as well as on its very own 7″ (backed with non-album track, “Start Over”), available bundled with the album if you pre-order now.
‘Zoo’ is out March 6 at your favorite brick-and-mortar record stores and digital retailers. As an added bonus, if you pick up the album at an independent record shop, you might find it on limited green vinyl (500 pressed), whereas if you pick up a copy from the band on tour (dates below), your LP might be blue (300 pressed) Pre-order copies on red vinyl (300 pressed) are long gone — but we’re still offering these t-shirt + 7″ bundles.

Connoisseurs of live radio performance have a great deal on their plate today, and you have us to thank for it.
Seattle singer/songwriter (and star of the year’s most controversial ad so far) Perfume Genius performs live on hometown station KEXP today at 2:00PM EST/11:00AM PST. Listen at 90.3FM or online at kexp.org, and pre-order the new Perfume Genius album, Put Your Back N 2 It, here.
Also this afternoon, Girls return to the World Cafe studios to play some songs from last year’s world-beating sophomore album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost. The show starts at 2:00PM EST/11:00AM PST, and can be heard at 88.5FM in Philadelphia, or online at xpn.org. Can’t catch the session when it airs? It’ll be on NPR’s website later in the day, and you can also find out when your local public radio station airs World Cafe at this link. And while you’re here, you might as well pick up a copy of Father, Son, Holy Ghost for yourself, or for a treasured friend.
We’ve gone on a bit about this Saturday’s completely bonkers all-ages Ceremony show at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge (which is now SOLD OUT), but what we haven’t told you until literally this very moment is that tomorrow, February 3, WNYU’s New Afternoon Show will be hosting a live performance by Rohnert Park’s finest. They’ll be playing songs from their upcoming album, Zoo (pre-order here), and maybe some golden oldies for good measure. Tune in to 89.1FM or listen online at wnyu.org at 5:00PM EST.
In celebration of Ceremony’s March 6 release of Zoo, we’re happy to announce the band will be playing a few all ages California release week shows in LA, Anaheim and Berkeley.

In collaboration with Hardcore Gig Volume and Le Poisson Rouge, Ceremony have put together what’s bound to be one of the most insane shows of this nascent year… matinee style. Ceremony will be performing songs from their forthcoming album ‘Zoo’ (including “Hysteria“) as well as your favorites. More info, and a reveal on the special guest soon.
Rohnert Park, California’s CEREMONY will be releasing their fourth album, entitled Zoo, on March 6, 2012. Working with producer John Goodmanson, the band have refined their jagged sound while continuing to pursue themes of exurban alienation and confinement. Their previous three albums on the Malfunction and Bridge 9 labels are widely seen as the most compelling, unusual and progressive hardcore of the last five years, and we are incredibly excited to be working with them.

Back in December, we announced the 7″ of “Hysteria,” the lead track on the album, backed with the non-LP Urinals cover “I’m A Bug.” Now you can listen to an MP3 of “Hysteria” here:
Also coming out on March 6 will be the second single from the album, “Adult” backed with the non-album original song “Start Over.” You can preorder it separately, or as part of one of the complicated bundle deals below.
The first 300 copies of Zoo will be on red vinyl exclusively for webstore preorders, and the first 200 copies of “Adult” will be on clear. These have already sold out. Orders going forward will get black vinyl.
Look for an announcement very soon: there’s going to be a special NYC event happening in early February.

On October 31st*, Matador will release a charity 7″ from Philadelphia’s TV Casualty.
This is the first recorded document to be released by a collective made up of Brian Sokel (Franklin, AM/FM), Andy Nelson (Ceremony, Paint It Black), Atom Goren (Atom and His Package) & Chris Wilson (Ted Leo & the Pharmacists). Over the past few years the group has played out in and around Philly for different charitable events, assembling as The Ramones (with Rodney Anonymous), Black Flag (with Dan Yemin) and Minor Threat (with Mike McKee). Here, Ted Leo joins the band as Glen Danzig, in what else but their take on The Misfits (watch some past performances here)!
As part of Matador’s famed ELO- catalogue series (confused? consult the discography), this blood-red 7″ features covers of Children In Heat, Angelfuck, Teenagers From Mars, We Bite, Who Killed Marilyn, Some Kinda Hate. All proceeds collected on sales of this release will be donated on behalf of TV Casualty & Matador to The Attic Youth Center, Philadelphia’s only LGBTQ Youth Center.
TV Casualty’s next live date is on October 28 at The Florida Theater as part of The Fest in Gainesville, Florida. Money collected at this show will go to Occupy Philadelphia.
*The band will have copies for sale on their 10/28 show in Gainesville and you should be able to find the 7″ in your local stores around then. You can also buy the tracks digitally starting 10/31.
Along with an appearance at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest, Ceremony will hit the road in the coming weeks, playing Southern California and Flordia. Don’t miss them.

For several of us at Matador Records & Filmworks, ‘Rohnert Park’, the 3rd album from Northern California’s CEREMONY wasn’t merely one of our favorites of 2010, it also represented one of those moments where we sit around in a dark room and wonder aloud, “can you imagine what these guys will do next?”
Those moments usually don’t last long. Often one of the cleaners will turn on the lights and we’ll have to explain they’ve not walked in on some kind of corporate hazing ritual. In this instance, however, the moment seemed to extend for several months, finally culminating in the worst kept secret in our version of the rock biz this spring ; Ceremony’s next full-length studio album will be a Matador release in 2012.
Big Smile’s Conor Crackford called ‘Rohnert Park’, “one of the best hardcore punk albums of the new decade, a testament to punk’s relevance in the American Apocalypse and to classic hardcore’s endurance as a form of pop in it’s own right,” a statement that feels less like hyperbole and something closer to a truism after living with that record in our heads over the past year. We’ve too much respect for what Ross, Anthony, Andy , Justin and Jake have already done and too much optimism over where they’re going than to raise the spectre of post-hardcore. For starters, that would suggest we think hardcore is done & dusted . It would imply there’s a label mandate about Ceremony’s next creative move. Both of these things are untrue. There’s gonna be a new album recorded this autumn, released in the first half of next year, and beyond that, we expect to be as surprised as you (albeit a bit earlier).
The announcement of Ceremony’s signing to Matador also coincides with the band’s swan song for Bridge 9, a 6-song 12″ EP/CD/digital EP entitled ‘Covers’. Songs by Urban Waste (“Public Opinion”), Pixies (“Nimrod’s Son”), Crisis (“Holocaust”), Eddie and the Subtitles (“American Society”), Vile (“5 to 10″) and Wire (“Pink Flag”) are reinterpreted by Ceremony on this collection of outtakes from the ‘Rohnert Park’ sessions. Bridge Nine are taking preorders starting today.
