Last week on their website, COLD CAVE’s Wesley Eisold posted a pretty spectacular mix of “songs for the summer”; a playlist containing sounds ranging from pure pop to avant garde, some familiar and some obscure, somehow all tied together loosely for this season and certainly worthy of repeat listens.
This digital mixtape also rings in the kick off of Cold Cave’s summer tour, which starts at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn tomorrow should likely hits your town thereafter.
And hey, check this space tomorrow for even more exciting Cold Cave content.

Indeed, NYC synth magicians Cold Cave will help Los Angelinos get through that rough period between most recent coffee to delicious lunchtime with a 30-minute set today on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic. Tune in at 11:15AM PDT/2:15PM EDT (perhaps it will help us right-coasters with our digestion) to hear Wes Eisold and his band of keyboard warriors unleash tunes from the awesome new Cherish The Light Years under the watchful gaze and alongside the thoughtful questioning of Jason Bentley. As you’re probably well aware, KCRW can be heard at 89.9FM or can be streamed online. Cold Cave also rocks it, nighttime-stylee, tonight at The Music Box at The Henry Fonda. The show is sold out, but perhaps you know a guy who knows a guy.
And an update since yesterday’s post; you can now also win a chance at tickets to Space 15Twenty by tuning in to KXLU (88.9FM Los Angeles). KXLU will be giving away tickets on the air until Noon PST today. Don’t miss out!
All the wristbands have been handed out, but the first 100 attendees to show up at Space 15 Twenty will be admitted (based on capacity)
Space 15Twenty Details::

And don’t forget, Cold Cave will also be playing The Music Box this Friday (SOLD OUT) with tour-mates, The Kills. And if that’s not enough Cold Cave will also be performing live on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” this Friday morning (live at 11:15AM PST, 2:15PM EST). Details here.
Listen to “Villains Of The Moon” here & watch the video here
I’ll start with the bad news: tonight’s Kills/Cold Cave show in Seattle is sold out. Actually, a lot of the tour dates below are sold out. So hopefully you managed to score a ticket or two.
The good news: Cold Cave is playing a live set at Seattle’s KEXP today, allowing those of you who can’t make it to the live show to get a sense of what you’re missing, and fire you up for the inevitable return of Wes Eisold and crew to your city/town/market. The session airs tonight at 6:00PM EST/3:00PM PST, and will wing its way to you on the 90.3FM frequency in Seattle, or at kexp.org in the less rainy parts of the country/world.
Don’t forget that Cold Cave’s new album is available for purchase on all of today’s relevant formats. And here are those tour dates I mentioned. More to come soon.

The somewhat unimaginative (but guaranteed to sell out) Reading and Leeds festivals just got a lot better with the addition of Cold Cave and Fucked Up for the end of summer UK weekend festival.
Fucked Up play the NME/Radio 1 tent (Leeds – Friday, Reading – Sunday), whilst Cold Cave play the dance tent (Reading – Friday, Leeds – Saturday) . Interpol were announced previously and play way up the bill on the main stage (Leeds – Friday, Reading – Sunday).
For a full line-up and tickets head to the Reading or Leeds official websites.
All bands have extensive tours ahead of this, click to check the upcoming tour dates of Cold Cave, Fucked Up and Interpol.
Cold Cave are touring the US like madmen this summer in support of their April 5 release Cherish The Light Years and we’ve got a couple new dates to announce in SLC and Denver:
Friday July 29 – Salt Lake City - Urban Lounge (Austra Supports)
As announced on the official Coachella page, stage times are out now for all bands playing this weekends festival and you’ll find Matador and True Panther bands well represented, without any clashes (…hopefully) too!
Surrounded as we are by an ever-increasing number of cameras in our daily lives, we begin to lose ownership of our own images. Anonymous technology is analyzing, categorizing and archiving our very existence.
Interpol, in collaboration with David Lynch, Andi Watson, HPX and Wieden & Kennedy present a visual juxtaposition of the seen and the unseen. As the observer becomes the observed, the performance explores the deepening layers of covert surveillance, morphing data acquisition into visual beauty and questioning the fine line between the viewer and the voyeur.
Featuring the premiere of the David Lynch animation “I Touch A Red Button Man” for the song “Lights”, and utilizing real-time visual manipulation from Seattle-based HPX, the performance will be streamed live to the internet as well as to the audience at Coachella.
Cold Cave’s second full-length album, ‘Cherish The Light Years‘, is available in stores worldwide today.
As a special bonus for the iPad nation, the iTunes version of the album comes with “LP” – the first-ever iTunes LP for Matador. It has a bunch of hand-written lyrics from Wes and a grip of photos from the band’s last tour around the world. You can get that here.
And while you can catch the band opening up for the Kills over the next month, the first few shows of the band’s upcoming July tour have been confirmed.

On April 5 Cold Cave will release their second album, Cherish The Light Years. Recorded with Chris Coady in New York City, the record is a tour de force of pounding synths and soaring romantic melody. Bandleader Wesley Eisold has taken Cold Cave worlds beyond 2008′s Love Comes Close with a massive, ambitious love letter to his adopted city. With Eisold’s newfound vocal strength fully to the fore on every track, Cherish The Light Years is a remarkable progression and we are confident that it will shake your world.
Other players on the album include longtime Cold Cave associates Dominick Fernow on electronics and Jennifer Clavin on backing vocal and synthesizer, plus Tonie Joy, Nick Zinner and Sean Martin on guitars, Daryl Palumbo on bass and guitar, Matt Sweeney on bass and Gae Licata on drums. Several of these will be joining Eisold on the road as the touring band, with other players to be announced.
The track list is as follows:
1. The Great Pan Is Dead
2. Pacing Around The Church
3. Confetti
4. Catacombs
5. Underworld USA
6. Icons Of Summer
7. Alchemy and You
8. Burning Sage
9. Villains of the Moon
There will be three different preorders available:

Matador at 21: The Lost Weekend takes place at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas from October 1-3, 2010. This event is sponsored by MySpace Music, Altamont and Incase.
Tickets for “The Lost Weekend” aka Matador’s 21st birthday celebrations at The Palms will go on sale this Friday morning at 9am, PST. Here’s the details you’ve been hassling all of us about over the last week (and don’t think we don’t appreciate it)
a) Tickets/Pricing : An initial quantity will be on sale Friday for $SOLD. .After the $SOLD tickets sell out, the price increases to $SOLD. A Ticketfly.com link will be posted on this site on Thursday, July 8th. Starting Friday, you’ll have the opportunity to reserve standard rooms at the Palms for the discounted rate of $SOLD per night (the full 3 nights of the festival, only). The rooms feature two double bed and occupancy of up to 4 persons is allowed. The above rate is only available when purchasing tickets thru us. If you are interested in upgrading to a larger room or a suite you will be able to do so after purchasing the standard room. TICKETS FOR THE 3 NIGHTS + ROOMS are being sold jointly — we’re not selling tickets to the shows separately at this time, nor are we selling tickets for individual nights.
(ADDENDUM -i) A limited number of 3-day tickets priced at $SOLD—with no Palms reservation required — will be available Friday morning at 9am PST via Ticketfly.com
ii) if, for example, you’re buying 4 tickets to the shows, the $SOLD per night hotel fee can cover up to 4 people. $SOLD over 3 nights divided by 4 is hopefully not an crazy amount to charge for rooms in a world class resort).
B) VIP tickets. A limited number of VIP packages will be available at $SOLD — details about what you’ll get for the $SOLD are forthcoming. You’ll have the ability to upgrade from the regular tickets, assuming the VIP tickets aren’t sold out.
D) MORE BANDS. OK, we’re working on it. But in addition to the 19 artists confirmed on the above poster, we can confirm the original lineup of COME — Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw, Sean O’Brien and Arthur Johnson — will be participating. Actually, we already know who some of the other bands are, we’re just trying to drag this out. MORE MATABLOG CONTENT between now and October!
E) Set times - we’ll post these the week before the event.
F) These shows are open to all ages. However, access to the casino floor is limited to those 21 and over.
F) WHAT ABOUT LAS VEGAS HUMANS? Las Vegas’ Zia Records is selling 50 tickets to “The Lost Weekend” starting Friday, July 9. You’ll need a Nevada I.D. Reservations at the Palms are not required to purchase these tickets.
(ADDENDUM II :

There is a two ticket limit. Nevada state ID required for purchase. Any questions please email 21@matadorecords.com
As mentioned previously in this space, Matador will be celebrating the label’s 21st anniversary this October and this much we can finally confirm : there will be 3 nights of shows starting Friday October 1, and concluding Sunday October 3 at the Palms Casino & Resort In Las Vegas, NV. We’ll be dropping further hints about the amazing lineup in the days ahead, but a final announcement and information about how to purchase tickets will be made here at the trusty Matablog on July 5. Are you as psyched as we are? (hopefully yes, because we’re getting in for free).
(ADDENDUM – there’s been a bit of confusion so just to clear things up, tickets DO NOT GO ON SALE JULY 5. We’ll merely be announcing the on sale date/time on July 5. thanks – GC)
