… and you can buy it at the Matador store, iTunes, Amazon, and perhaps most importantly, at your local indie retailler. And we say this cuz that’s where you’re gonna get the limited ultra deluxe 2xLP DIY GRAFFITI edition.
This is one of those albums that both Q & Mojo both call “wonderful”, and how often does that happen? NPR deems the album “arguably his best yet”, and while we’re in no way dissing Kurt’s impressive oeuvre, we’re inclined to agree.
Today sees the release of the second album from Esben and the Witch. Wash The Sins Not Only The Face is as majestic as it is triumphant – dispelling any fears of the ‘difficult second album’, the band have grown into themselves and produced a focused and confident album. The album has been streaming all week over at Pitchfork.
For folks outside of the US – Order / download here, or visit your local independent record store – iTunes | Vinyl | CD And for those stateside, grab your copy from the Matador Store.

Today is a busy day for Lee Ranaldo fans: not only is his Matador debut, Between The Times And The Tides out today in finer record stores and digital retailers, but there are two opportunities to sample the live Lee experience.
Tune in to WFMU for Brian Turner’s show (3pm to 6pm) for a scorcher of a live set and a slightly less scorching interview with the man himself, starting around 4pm EDT. WFMU is 91.1FM on your radio, or you can listen online at wfmu.org.
Later tonight, NYC’s Other Music will be hosting a free, all ages instore at 9PM EDT. We strongly suggest you get there early; you’re not the only one who’s psyched about the opportunity to see a living legend in such an intimate venue.
Don’t forget, starting today you can buy Lee’s album from all kinds of places, including right here.
It’s a Tuesday, which means it’s new release day in the US, and this Tuesday sees the first Matador full-length release of the year: the new album from Seattle’s Perfume Genius, entitled “Put Your Back N 2 It.” It’s been called “One of of the best records in recent memory” and “achingly soft and bruisingly powerful” by The Line of Best Fit, “simply exquisite” by Chromewaves, and “deeply personal, accessible and quietly anthemic” by Interview.
Perfume Genius will be touring the US starting in three weeks, followed by a month in Europe.

It’s Tuesday, January 17 which means our first two releases of the New Year are out today.
First up is Intended Play, the new ultra-budget vinyl-only sampler from Matador and True Panther. The 11-song LP is $1.98 list price – you can actually order it direct for only $1.80 by clicking on the title above. It contains new tracks from THE YOUNG, CEREMONY TANLINES, LEE RANALDO, PERFUME GENIUS and STEPHEN MALKMUS – all of the above from upcoming releases except the SM track which won’t appear elsewhere, and recent hits (some of them rare) from KURT VILE, GIRLS, FUCKED UP, ESBEN & THE WITCH and COLD CAVE.
Next is the first single in our new 2012 singles club, SINGLES GOING HOME ALONE. It’s an unexpected conjunction between STEPHEN MALKMUS & THE JICKS and the legendary LA GUNS, covering each other. Hear Malkmus jam on “Wheels Of Fire,” and Tracii Guns pull out the stops on “Gorgeous Georgie.” Sleeve art at the top of the post.
It’s not too late to sign up for the singles club, which gets you six exclusive limited-edition 7″es, one every other month this year, plus a special bonus record, an exclusive tote bag and a yearlong 10% discount on all items at the Matador Store, for only $45 including shipping within the US:
The next two confirmed singles are from Austin’s OBN III’s on March 20, and Brooklyn’s The Men on May 8, with subsequent the singles on July 10, September 11 and November 6.
The four singles and 7 songs comprising the introduction and epilogue to David Comes To Life are out today for lucky participants in our Buy Early Get Now promotion.
The first 6 songs comprise an “Act 0″ to the play and introduce the setting and the characters, as laid out below. And the final one-sided 7″, “Octavio Made The Bomb,” forms the conclusion to the opera.
We’ll be laying out ways for the rest of you to get hold of this music later in the year.
OLE-960A “Byrdesdale Garden City” turned paradise into a factory
OLE-960B “Into The Light” pleasure on the edge of a knife
OLE-961A “Do All Words Can Do” David Eliade
OLE-961B “What Would You Do (For Veronica)?” Veronica Boisson
OLE-962A “Remember Me (That’s All I Ask)” Vivian Benson
OLE-962B “What They Didn’t Know” Octavio St. Laurent
OLE-963 (one-sided) “Octavio Made The Bomb” He was the one all along
