On September 13th, 2011 San Francisco’s Girls will release their second album and third record Father, Son, Holy Ghost on our imprint, True Panther Sounds and Turnstile in the UK/Europe. The album comes two years after their debut (Album), and one year after the follow-up EP (Broken Dreams Club).
On the third anniversary of the birth of Girls as a band Christopher Owens and Chet White found themselves entering the studio to begin recording their second album. More a collection of gear than a studio, recording took place in the bowels of a San Francisco office building. The two teamed up with new drummer Darren Weiss and guitarist John Anderson assembling performances and ultimately creating new music and musical relationships to carry the band through its newest incarnation.
Girls have taken what they’ve always done best and have displayed it with amazing clarity and the strongest of intent. Classic songwriting coupled with exciting production is their way. “I’m still all the same,” Owens says. “I still know I have to do it. I still love the songs and writing songs.”
Father. Son, Holy Ghost is at times ebullient and at times absolutely devastating. A truly beautiful record and the perfect amalgamation of a band’s past and present while most importantly leaving us all excited and hungry for their future.

1. Honey Bunny
2. Alex

4. Saying I Love You

After updating the Complete Discography page, we discovered that the New Releases page hadn’t been updated since September 2010. Maintaining a website is a funny thing, especially if it’s packed with static templates created in May 2001, when browser windows were narrower and PHP was virtually unheard of.
We often wish other labels maintained a new releases section so that we could see what they have been putting out lately, and what’s coming up soon. However there’s not much point to having one if you don’t keep it updated.
Check out the New Releases page to catch up on Matador and True Panther releases you may have missed in 2010 and 2011, and to see what’s coming up this July and August:

Today Fucked Up release the second of four singles from the upcoming album David Comes To Life. Entitled “A Little Death,” the song is track 13 out of 18. Its urgent tone plays against an underlying tale of resignation and defeat, and showcases a different side of this insanely multilayered album from the first single released a couple of weeks ago.
A Little Death (192k mp3)
Appropriately enough, the band will be celebrating the release of this (sad?) single with a free show at the ACE Hotel in Palm Springs after Coachella ends tonight. They will be performing multiple songs from the new album. Doors open at midnight. Come and get a free postcard containing more information on the story.
If you can’t make it out to the desert, catch them at the Echoplex in LA tomorrow night. Tickets are only $5.

* To avoid confusion, these singles are DIGITAL singles. There will be plenty of REAL singles coming for you collectors.
Stay tuned for the release of single number 3 on Tuesday, April 26.
