Times New Viking return to the East Coast this Saturday night at Brooklyn’s Bell House, playing alongside the reunited Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments and the Mad Scene. If this clip from 2008 is any indication, Ron House hasn’t lost a step, but wouldn’t you rather have an informed opinion?

Secret show that’s not secret any more ! Fun warehouse party tonight in East London, with TNV debuting some new material. Expect numerous shout outs, whiskey shots and some 1980’s Rock n Roll.
As if a Live Pavement LP, a Sonic Youth/Jay Reatard 7″ AND a Sonic Youth/Beck 7″ weren’t enough, we’re spreading the love with some live instore performances. If you live in or around Memphis or Columbus, be sure to check out Jay Reatard or Times New Viking kicking it RSD style.

Times New Viking Live Instore
Saturday April 18 (known to his friends and loved ones as Record Store Day)
This past Saturday at the Wexner Center for the Arts, on the campus of THE Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, Times New Viking offered a Valentine to rock and roll and modern art, closing out the museum’s six-month-running Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms exhibition with a set of cover songs by the incomparable Velvet Underground.
Joined by Ohio rock legend Mike “Rep” Hummel (guitar/voice) and noise/avant man-about-many-towns C. Spencer Yeh (violin), TNV led an enthusiatic crowd through early Velvets classics including “All Tomorrow’s Parties”, “Sunday Morning”, “Venus in Furs” and a show-stopping “Heroin”, with Rep on lead vocals. Set-list courtesy of Beth TNV:
The show actually concluded with an acoustic “After Hours” singalong, featuring members of opener Psychedelic Horseshit as well as a vocal contribution from the one and only Ron House.
On a Valentine’s Day in Central Ohio, Times New Viking channeled the deposed spirit of rock and roll’s greatest band, and moved the crowd, melding their own distinctive blast-first-second-and-third rock mentality to classic jams never far from anyone’s heart.
Times New Viking, in their own minds and in their own words. Today at noon on Viva Radio.

Our spring Intended Play label download sampler was a huge hit, so we’re doing it again. Just like before, you get a track from one of each of our current and upcoming releases. Seven of the tracks have not been released on MP3 yet, and four of those are from albums that haven’t been released yet. The sampler this time is a bit more varied musically, from A.C. Newman’s jewel-like pop songscapes to the majestic neo-punk of Fucked Up to the gorgeous female vocals of Jennifer O’Connor to a track from Lou Reed’s painstaking, thoughtful, first-ever performance of his controversial classic album ‘Berlin.’ We also introduce an unreleased song from Pavement’s ‘Brighten The Corner’ sessions, due out on the deluxe edition of that album in November.
Click on the link to get a zipped file of all 13 tracks plus front and back artwork, and burn it yourself (or just listen to it digitally). And support the bands and the label… if you like the track, click on the album title link below to buy (or preorder) the album (or more individual tracks) directly from us.
1. A.C. Newman There Are Maybe Ten Or Twelve (from Get Guilty, due out January 20)
2. Belle and Sebastian The State I Am In (BBC Version) (from The BBC Sessions, due out November 18)

If like me, you consider yourself a budding artist and photographer, seeing beauty in our concrete jungle and capturing those happy days of youth on film and uploading them onto various social networking sites; you may have once invested in a Polaroid camera.
The Polaroid camera caters for the needs of the impatient – to achieve that instantaneous hit of immediacy and to document the here and now. Sadly, in the past few months, Polaroid have decided to discontinue manufacturing the blessed Polaroid film. Within the next few months there will be no Polaroid film left.
Thankfully I managed to snap up some film in advance of the recent UK ShredYrFace tour with Times New Viking, No Age and Los Campesinos!
I could think of no better way to use my final Polaroid film than to document the 10 day SYF journey. The highs, the lows, the good times and the hungover mornings. For your viewing pleasure :
Mad props going out to Annette Lee for her scan and Photoshop efforts.
2008’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York City begins tomorrow (10/21), but for us, the festivities start tonight with Shearwater’s performance at Le Poisson Rouge (LPR).
Find below, your guide to the official and unofficial CMJ Marathon showcases featuring a trio of Matador acts: Shearwater, Jay Reatard and Mission of Burma.
With quite the live-act triumvirate and manning of the 1’s and 2’s by Billy Hayes and Times New Viking at the Beggars/Matador After Party, this’ll be a week to remember.
As you can see, Times New Viking have been having the time of their lives on the current Drowned in Sound endorsed Shred Yr Face tour with the lovely No Age and Los Campesinos! kids.
There’s still a fair few dates to go (see below) but if you happen to be London bound this weekend, be sure to get yourselves down to the Super Shred Sunday instore frenzy. Details had been kept secret until now, but i’m pleased to announce which band will be playing which store at what time and how you get in and what it’s all about etc etc:
As with all things in life, there’s a catch – to get into the instores, you’ll need to obtain yourself a wristband.
There’s just 300 wristbands for the Super Shred Sunday instores. The first 100 wristbands will be available direct from Pure Groove Records when you pre order the exclusive Shredyrface 7″ (featuring all three bands), these wristbands will get you free entry into all 3 shows on the Sunday. For wristbands call Pure Groove on UK number 0207 778 9278 or visit www.puregroove.co.uk.
The remaining 200 wristbands will be available via Rough Trade East when you preorder the exclusive Shredyrface 7″ and will gain you free entry to the Beyond Retro and RT East instores.
For wristbands call Rough Trade East on 0207-392 7788 or visit www.roughtrade.com.

INFO:
Times New Viking, No Age and Los Campesinos! travel across the UK in a big old bus, singing show tunes and making noise. Often individually, occasionally together. We’re pretty sure a bit of Kumbaya will be going down.

01 Los Campesinos!: “Death to Los Campesinos! (Napoleon III Remix)”
02 No Age: “Revolving Credit for Kitty”
03 Times New Viking: “Anything Could Happen” (The Clean cover)
INSTORE(S) :
As well as all this, there’s gonna be some super hot instore action where you can get up close and personal with each band. Maybe you’ll even get sweated on by Beth?
So this is where it gets a little confusing. You’ll already get TNV up at the Leeds Crash store, but as well as that, all three bands will play a store of their choice around London on October 19th. They’ll hit Pure Groove at 3 p.m., Beyond Retro at 5 p.m., and Rough Trade East at 7 p.m., but its currently a big secret as to who plays where. So why not go to all?
ONE LAST THING :
Seattle artist Carlos Ruiz has designed a t-shirt and a limited edition silkscreened poster for the Shred Yr Face tour, both of which will be available at the shows and at Coalition stores. So get down there early and bag your own piece of history.
Times New Viking’s ‘Stay Awake’ 5 song 7″ EP hits stores and digital outposts on October 7, but you can preorder said artifact TODAY from the the Matador Shop and received a limited edition poster silkscreened poster from TNV’s Summer ‘08 performance at the Whitney Museum. It’s like a PBS telethon around here — when we launch the Fucked Up umbrellas, you’ll know we’ve really lost it.

Just 48 hours after supporting Sonic Youth at Brooklyn’s McCarren Pool, Times New Viking have confirmed another high profile NYC event, this time supporting Wire at the Fillmore (formerly Irving Plaza on October 9. The show is part of WFMU’s 50th Anniversary Concert Series and free tickets are available starting Wednesday morning at Other Music.

….to be more specific, No Age and Los Campesinos! in what our friends at Drowned In Sound have dubbed the Shred Yr Face Tour. Not to get all old-timer on you, but Faxed Head were trading in shredded faces years ago and nobody ever invited them to go overseas (deportations excepted).
10-14 Brighton, England – Komedia
10-15 Liverpool, England – Academy 2
10-16 Leeds, England – Irish Centre
10-17 Dublin, Ireland – Whelans
10-18 Glasgow, Scotland – School of Arts
10-20 London, England – Electric Ballroom
10-21 Bristol, England – Fleece
10-22 Manchester, England – Academy 3
Ignoring the somewhat pathetic pleading on the part of someone who may or may not work for a record company, Times New Viking have eschewed demands to release a 10″ EP, instead going the old tried and tested 7″ route with the forthcoming “Stay Awake”, due October 21.
SIDE A:
1. CALL & RESPOND
2. PAGAN EYES
3. HATE HATE HATE

The Times New Viking Music Festival Weekend Express made a brief stop by our offices on Friday to drop off some new tunes and create some artwork on Patrick’s floor. Both of these bits of news (and the video below) should excite you (or at least ignite another limited edish 7″ thread on the BB).
Today is the first day of my 10 date midwest run with Son Ambulance. Right now I’m sitting at The Old Mattress Factory or The Matt Bar and Grill as it says on my pint glass – eating some fish tacos and looking at 13 different large screen TVs showing baseball and golf.
This afternoon I visited Antiquarium Records. I got a used copy of Grizzly Bear’s Yellow House on CD for $4 and I spoke with Chelsea.
JO’C: Yes, I’ve heard of them somewhere. No, I’m kidding – I love their record too. To continue the Matador theme we have going here, what is your favorite Matador band of all time?
Anything else you’d like to add for the Matablog readers?
Chelsea: Keep buying records and going to record stores!
JO’C: Wise words.
I would like to note that this was a charming store with very nice people and lots of vinyl! When I told Chelsea I was on Matador and what I was there to do, she remarked that she wasn’t cool enough for Matador – that I should wait for the owner to come back because he was cooler. I just want Chelsea and everyone else to know…that they ARE cool enough for Matador. Matador loves you. And so do I.
Times New Viking perform live on WFMU tomorrow (Tuesday, July 1) . Tune in to Brian Turner’s show from 3:00 – 6:00 PM EST, located on the radio dials of those in the NY/NJ areas at 91.1 FM and online for the rest at www.wfmu.org. If you miss it, the broadcast will be available in perpetuity on WFMU’s online archives.
