The Future Is Later than “Now,” and it’s not part of our future anyway.

We regret to announce that Matador will not be releasing Non Phixion’s upcoming debut album ‘The Future is Now.’ After months of preparations for the release of this album, the group have reached the conclusion that Matador is not the right label for them. While we wish they had made this decision prior to signing a contract or recording the album, we see no reason to stand in their way and we look forward to reaching an amicable settlement. We remain fans of Non Phixion’s music and sincerely wish them all the success in their future endeavors.

Non Phixion date change
Good things come to those who wait, and even better things come when we decide to stop waiting. The long-awaited Non Phixion debut album, ’The Future is Now’ has been moved forward to a September 26 release date. With production work from luminaries like Premier, Large Professor, Necro and Pete Rock, and staples of Non Phixion’s live set like “The C.I.A. Is Trying To Kill Me,” “If You Got Love” and the recent single “Black Helicopters,” this is shaping up to be a devestating album. More news on singles, tours and documentary videos to follow.

Non Phixion’s Ill Bill was just interviewed by New York's UPN affiliate, Ch. 9 for their evening news program. Ill Bill has an upcoming solo 12" entitled "How To Kill A Cop" which the hard-hitting journalists at Ch. 9 must've thought was controversial. Meanwhile, the Rudy Giuliani 12" "How To Gun Down An Unarmed Civilian" has been pulled from our release schedule.

Just back from showing the Gavin Convention how it's done, Non Phixion are playing at the Wetlands on 3/1 for a Stop Police Brutality event with Reflection Eternal and others. Non Phixion's performance will be brief, so don't say we didn't warn you. Which reminds me, how do you stop police brutality? Beat yourself up! Wait a second, that's the one where you're supposed to help the police out. But it would probably serve the same function if you really thought about it -- pretty hard for the police to brutalize you if you've already done the job on your own. On the other hand, this might be too much to think about. Maybe you should just shell out the cash to see Non Phixion.

Chan Marshall will be on the cover of the Feb/March issue of Mean Magazine, out Feb 21. Which will come as thrilling news for those of us who aren't patient enough for Grand Royal to start publishing again. And don't even get us started on Popsmear. Non Phixion’s center spread in Martha Stewart Living has been cancelled until further notice.

S.O.B.'s stands for "sounds of Brazil." At least that's what my parents told me. Arsonists and Non Phixion will be tearing it up at this legendary Varick St. venue on January 29. Kind of like a hip-hop superbowl, without the Billy Ray Cyrus halftime show (memo to research dept.: please make sure Billy Ray Cyrus isn't first on the bill.)

The Aronsists and Non Phixion are on a new compilation out last month on Battle Axe Records/Nu Gruv Alliance called "Defenders of the Underworld." Non Phixion lead off the disc with "The Full Monty"; the Arsonists contribute a sample-heavy "Fat Laces." Other artists of note include Everlast, Defari, Kool Keith, Swollen Members, Dilated Peoples, Del, and Aceyalone.

Plus: the Arsonists and Non Phixion's appearance on the 88hiphop.com Fat Beats Radio show last month is up in an audio/video archive.

News, official-like: Matador has signed Non Phixion. Straight outta beautiful Brooklyn, with a handful of independent 12" singles, an aborted deal with Geffen, the moxie to kick MC Serch out of the group...and great names: Goretex, Ill Bill, Sabac, and Eclipse. They're funny, straight-forward and playing with Prince Paul at Tramps on March 23. I'll post some of their press on the website in the next couple of weeks.

Right now, a couple RealAudio clips from 12"s:

The hottest: "I Shot Reagan" (as far as I'm concerned, they could do nothing but repeat the titular line over and over and it would still work), from "I Shot Reagan"/"This is Not An Exercise," "Refuse to Lose" 12" (Uncle Howie).

"Legacy" from the "Legacy"/"No Tomorrow" 12" (Serchlite/Fat Beats)
