SM Video Interview
We sat down with Stephen on an early December Friday to talk about his new album, his days with Pavement, and how Santa should fill his stocking.

His responses are in Real Video.

The Interview
You’re living in Portland now, how’s the music scene there? On the album, you play with Joanna Bolme and John Moen and you’re all listed as the Jicks. Who are Joanna and John and who are the Jicks? Were you listening to anything that influenced you while recording?

How is this record different from Pavement records?

Is Pavement broken up?
What’s going on with pavementtherockband.com?
Is the Pavement DVD ever going to come out?

What’s on your Christmas list?
Give us your top 10 for 2000.

Let’s talk a little about some of the songs on the new album.
Jenny and the Ess-Dog is a narrative song, which is a little different for your usual style. How did you go about writing Jenny?
Tell us about Church on White, which is a beautiful, delicate song.
I heard Jo Jo’s Jacket was about Moby.

Then Stephen played us a couple songs. He put together an impromptu cover of “Lodi” by CCR a one verse version of “Trojan Curfew” from the upcoming album.
