TOP 5 BOB DYLAN MOMENTS IN THE MATADOR WAREHOUSE 2017 EDITION
"Like Dylan In The Warehouse
In 1986 Dylan made another pass at acting as if being in Sam Peckinpah's greatest film wasn't already enough this time around he was being directed by the man a few years off of Return of the Jedi and what would be considered by some as the film that did him in as he died of a stroke later the same year. Gone are the days of Bob and co. fleeing to a nearby car to evade screaming fans you may be familiar with from Don't Look Back or Eat the Document here we see Bob yucking it up with some metal head children ("Oh yeah? you like Ozzy? How about RATT?), unwillingly taking a photo with a fan who thinks he shares a similar nose line as he, willingly taking some photos with 2 female fans then says hello to an old Canadian wrestler and father of Jake "The Snake" Roberts; Grizzly Smith. All this and more can be seen in the documentary about the making of the film called GETTING TO DYLAN

Lucy Dacus - 'Historian', Coming March 2, "Night Shift" Premiere

On March 2, Matador is releasing the hotly anticipated 2nd album from Richmond, VA's Lucy Dacus, 'Historian', the followup to her unanimously hailed 2016 debut, 'No Burden' that established her as one of modern music's top new voices & songwriters. The album's first single, "Night Shift", can be heard above.
'Historian' is a remarkably assured 10-track statement of intent that finds Dacus unafraid to take on the big questions — the life-or-death reckonings, and the ones that just feel that way. It's a record full of bracing realizations, tearful declarations and moments of hard-won peace, expressed in lyrics that feel destined for countless yearbook quotes and first tattoos.
Dacus and her band recorded the album in Nashville last March, re-teaming with 'No Burden' producer Collin Pastore, and mixed it a few months later with John Congleton. The sound they created, with substantial input from multi-instrumentalist and live guitarist Jacob Blizard, is far richer and fuller than the debut — an outward flowering of dynamic, living, breathing rock and roll. Dacus' remarkable sense of melody and composition are the driving force throughout, giving 'Historian' the immersive feel of an album made by an artist in full command of her powers, on a new level of truth-telling and melodic grace.
The past year, with its electoral disasters and other assorted heartbreaks, has been a rough one for many of us, Dacus included. She found solace in crafting a thoughtful narrative arc for Historian, writing a concept album about cautious optimism in the face of adversity, with thematic links between songs that reveal themselves on repeat listens — touching on everything from systemic racism to creative burnout to the death of her grandmother. "It starts out dark and ends hopeful, but it gets darker in between; it goes to the deepest, darkest, place and then breaks," she explains. "What I'm trying to say throughout the album is that hope survives, even in the face of the worst stuff."
Global touring in support of 'Historian' kicks off on release date at Brooklyn's Music Hall Of Williamsburg. The album is available for preorder now on the format of your choice.

WATCH: Tiny Desk: Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile

Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have a lot to celebrate this year: Their LP Lotta Sea Lice has been featured on Best-Of lists from Rolling Stone, Consequence of Sound, Paste, Uproxx, Noisey, among others so far, and they've traveled North America together with their all-star group The Sea Lice. Today NPR released Courtney & Kurt's Tiny Desk Concert, which sees the duo leave the band behind in favor of a mirrored acoustic performance. The set features highlights from Lotta Sea Lice "Over Everything," "Continental Breakfast," "Blue Cheese," and "Let It Go." Watch the whole thing here:

King Krule - Tiny Desk Concert

A couple weeks after delivering The OOZ to the world, King Krule dropped by the All Songs Considered offices in Washington D.C. to perform a stripped version of some of the new material. Several weeks and about 30 sold-out shows across the U.S. and Europe later, the video premieres today. Watch as Archy and the band manage to transform the sunny NPR office into a dingy South London pub with the tracks, "Midnight 01 (Deep Sea Diver), Lonely Blue, and a combination of "Logos" and "Sublunary."

VIDEO(S) : Spoon - 3 Songs from "CBS This Morning : The Saturday Sessions"

It would be an exaggeration to say Spoon's last week in NYC represented some kind of huge multimedia takeover, but only a slight exaggeration. And if their record label cannot slightly exaggerate things and trumpet such achievements, WE'RE OUT OF A JOB and you certainly wouldn't wish that upon any of us during this holiday season. From Saturday's broadcast of "CBS This Morning", here's Spoon performing at an ungodly hour (OK, it was pre-taped) along with Britt and Rob being interviewed by the program's Anthony Mason.

Spoon - "A Prairie Home Companion" & "CBS This Morning" Appearances, Saturday

As mentioned earlier this week, Spoon's omnipresence in the commercial and public broadcast realms continues tomorrow with an appearance on "CBS This Morning" (7am eastern), followed by a broadcast of "A Prairie Home Companion", live from NYC's Town Hall at 6pm eastern.
We've got 100 purple vinyl editions of 'Hot Thoughts' remaining at the Matador Store, so this might be your last chance to obtain one without being forced to pay an exorbitant sum elsewhere. For those unconcerned with such hoarding rituals, the black vinyl edition of said album-of-the-year contender is on sale now thru midnight tonight for 30% off.

Tommy Keene, 1958-2017

Sending our condolences to the family, friends, musical comprades and fans of Tommy Keene, who passed away earlier this week. Tommy was one of the finest songwriters of his generation or any other, a killer guitarist and most importantly, a fantastic guy whose brought wit, humility and joy for life to every encounter. Whether you knew him thru his early membership in Washington DC's The Razz, his solo spell as a WHFS staple in the 1980's, his subsequent recordings for the Dolphin, Geffen and Matador labels, his tenures as a sideman or collaborator to Paul Westerberg, Robert Pollard, Sally Crewe, Adam Schmitt and Velvet Crush, or his more recent series of amazing releases for the Second Motion imprint, you know we're talking about an irreplaceable talent.

Tonight : Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile & The Sea Lice on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert"

Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile & The Sea Lice make their (collaborative) national TV debut tonight at 11:35 pm (eastern) on CBS' "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert". Colbert's other guests tonight are Whoopi Goldberg and Katheryn Hahn. I remain hopeful the former will be asked to confirm or deny plans for a sequel to this 1996 classic, but experienced talk show hosts know how to do their jobs without further interference.
