Esben and the Witch for London Oct 31st show

(Attempting to avoiding mention of the "H" word...) Esben and the Witch play a one-off show at London's Barfly on October 31st, for the crazily cheap price of £1.25 (booking fee for a free ticket) to guarantee entry for the night, available here.
Having just finished their co-headline tour with Thought Forms and Teeth Of the Sea, recent reviews of their live shows include The Quietus calling the band "a visceral and thrilling presence on stage", so make the most of this chance for the chance of some new material from the Brighton trio.

Esben and The Witch - "When That Head Splits" video
Set your eyes to stunned - the new Esben and the Witch video for "When That Head Splits" is a psychadelic animated wonder, created by director Rafael Bonilla Jr, it uses almost 9,000 still frames and premieres today via Tumblr.
Currently on tour in Europe, they return to the UK for their largest headline show to date at London's Scala (Tickets), before making their long-awaited return to the USA and Canada. The band have recently shared a track-by-track of their new album Wash The Sins Not Only The Face on their Facebook page, whilst director Ralph Bonilla had these words about the video:
"I started first with the painting that was part of the inspiration for the song, Salvador Dali's Metamorphosis of Narcissus and the accompanying poem. One of my favorite things about Dali is that his paintings are full of hidden meanings and symbols, so I tried to do the same. I combined this with lyrics from the song, as well as an idea the band hand about a girl who gradually transforms into the landscape she's traveling through. The girl in the video is a combination of the nude women and the dog in the Dali painting, and as she travels through different regions of this strange alien planet, her body transforms along with it. I saw the other characters and the different locations in the story as reflections of her own self, until finally in the last segment of the video, she ends up in a place made entirely out of flesh and blood, literally inside her own body. Most of the video was accomplished using plasticine models ranging from 4in. - 1ft., which were fitted with wire armatures. The backgrounds are either digital paintings or watercolors. The final product contains almost 9,000 frames that were animated by hand."

Of their live show, the Los Angeles Times said, "They alternate moments of grandeur with explosions of fury, with all three members occasionally breaking from a swelling guitar crescendo to put the music on militaristic alert by simultaneously pounding away at the single drum that stands at the front of the stage…singer Rachel Davies works the stage as something of a possessed force. Rarely without a pair of drumsticks in her hands, she is ready to strike, regardless of what is or isn't in her way."

Esben and the Witch - Deathwaltz video
Esben and the Witch unveil another cinematic music video for Deathwaltz from their new album Wash The Sins Not Only The Face (pre-order here) - the same track you might have heard re-worked by Mr Dave Sitek just the other week.Shot in their Brighton, UK hometown the Deathwaltz video was partly shot on a high-speed Phantom HD Gold camera, shooting at 1000 frames per second, allowing super slow-motion shots, as you might have seen in such modern classics as Inception and Jackass 3.5, it makes everything look mind-bendingly time warped.
On the road next year, Esben and the Witch play the below tour dates, with tickets the Brighton show available to those pre-ordering the album at Brighton record store Resident. The vinyl version of the album comes with a bonus 7", featuring the Dave Sitek re-working and exclusive track 'Trail', only available at shows and from independent record stores.

Esben and the Witch: Dave Sitek re-working, bonus 7" and an "out-store"

Brighton's Esben and the Witch unveil a song today, a re-working of their latest track 'Deathwaltz' by Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio and several noteable production credit mentions) who rips the core vocal and instrumental elements from the the original track and pieces them back together along with his own added production.
The re-worked track appears with new original song 'Trail' on a bonus 7", available exclusively at all good independent record stores (UK/Europe only) with the LP version of Wash The Sins Not Only The Face, out in January.
As an additional bonus, each customer pre-ordering from Brighton record store Resident will receive a pair of tickets for a special show (read: in-store that won't fit in the store, so we guess this is an 'out-store'?) at Green Door Store in Brighton on January 20th, along with a signed poster.

Esben and the Witch 'Chorea' video for their Record Store Day release

Photo by Magnus Aske Blikeng from the show at St Phillips Church in Manchester, UK
The new Esben and the Witch video premiered yesterday on Pitchfork with several awkward figures shot on location around the Sussex coast by Brighton, England where the band reside when not on tour. The video provides both a visual representation of the Chorea affliction and a link to their Chorea EP artwork.
