Coming 12/3 : A Lower-Than-Low Priced Compilation LP Of Matador 2013 Highlights
November 19th, 2013 at 4:32 pm by Gerard

OK, we missed Black Friday by a few days, but if that means ONE LESS TRAMPLING this holiday shopping season, it was totally worth it. On December 3, we're releasing a limited edition, one-time pressing of a $5.99 list LP , 'It's Been A Business Doing Pleasure With You', featuring 9 songs from (most of) our 2013 releases. In addition to album tracks from Chelsea Light Moving, Majical Cloudz, Body/Head, Lee Ranaldo & The Dust, Iceage and Kurt Vile, there's a live version of Queens of the Stone Age performing "If I Had A Tail" at the 2013 iTunes Festival (Roundhouse, London), Savages' "City's Full" from last summer's KEXP session, and Yo La Tengo performing "Before We Run" in those same KEXP studios.
We don't have any copies for mail order, sadly, but hopefully you'll find one at your favorite record store after they're done sweeping up all the broken glass, blood, etc. from Black Friday. If you prefer, you can order a digital version of the comp. right now at the Matador Store.
Coming May 6 : Savages - 'Silence Yourself' LP/CD/digital album
March 19th, 2013 at 2:35 pm by Gerard
(EDITOR'S NOTE : in the early days of 2012, our esteemed colleague Natalie Judge was (loudly) signing the praises of a London band called Savages. In the months since, we've become equally obsessed with the quartet, partially on the back of a stunning debut 7" and followup live EP on their own Pop Noire label, but also via a succession of performances in the UK and US that were as visceral and exciting as anything we've witnessed in this label's history. The resulting debut album, 'Silence Yourself'', doesn't merely fulfill the promise of Savages' initial releases, but serves as stark notice we're dealing with a band uniquely inspired, uncannily confident and fully realized in a manner that belies their relatively brief existence. - GC)“SAVAGES is not trying to give you something you didn’t have already, it is calling within yourself something you buried ages ago, it is an attempt to reveal and reconnect your PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL self and give you the urge to experience your life differently, your girlfriends, your husbands, your jobs, your erotic life and the place music occupies in your life. Because we must teach ourselves new ways of POSITIVE MANIPULATIONS, music and words are aiming to strike like lightning, like a punch in the face, a determination to understand the WILL and DESIRES of the self."
This album is to be played loud in the foreground.”
SAVAGES, 2013

Savages will release their debut album, 'Silence Yourself' on 6th May 2013 on Matador Records / Pop Noire. (May 7 in North America). Available on LP, CD and digital formats, the album was recorded in Northwest London’s Fish Factory during December 2012, and is produced by Johnny Hostile and Rodaidh McDonald.
Clocking in at 38 minutes, Silence Yourself opens with an excerpt from the John Cassavetes film ‘Opening Night’, and features new recordings of ‘Husbands’, ‘I Am Here’ and ‘City’s Full’ - first heard on the debut single "Husbands" b/w "Flying To Berlin" and the ‘I Am Here’ live EP - both previously released on singer Jehnny Beth’s record label Pop Noire.
The first song from the album available for public perusal is ‘She Will’, which can be heard via the above YouTube clip.
The album will be available to preorder from iTunes tonight at midnight. ; iTunes preorder purchasers will receive "She Will" instantly. LP and CD versions are available for preorder from The Matador Store (initial pressing of the LP is on clear vinyl)
