Coming June 9 : DARKSIDE - 'Live At Spiral House'

On June 9th, Matador will release Darkside's 'Live at Spiral House', a loose and playful collection of jams culled from weeks of rehearsals in Los Angeles last summer.
Joined by drummer and longtime collaborator Tlacael Esparza, the band took residence rehearsing and jamming after an 8-year hiatus. Jaar says: “When we decided to get the band back together with Tlac, we knew we needed a space where we could explore what that meant. After a couple of months of rehearsals, we started inviting friends and family to the space and many of these recordings share the fun and cozy spirit of that
time.” Harrington adds: "I probably played every Jerry Garcia riff I know in every key over the course of Spiral House. You'd be surprised how good China Cat Sunflower sounds on ‘Narrow Road’!" Jed DeMoss – the artist and photographer behind both DARKSIDE album covers – documented the summer spent at Spiral House, making thesound recordings on this collection, alongside artist and videographer Will Carrà. They both collaborated on this video, which shows the band setting up Spiral House and rehearsing.
The band is currently on tour in Europe and will perform the first of two sold out shows tonight in Paris. Gigs in London and Brussels have also sold out.
In the 8 years since 'Psychic'touring ended…
Dave Harrington has been an active part of improvisational jazz communities in NYC and LA, jammed with everyone from Joe Russo to Chris Forsyth to the Master Musicians of Jajouka, released many solo and collaborative records, scored films, and has written and produced albums for multiple other artists, including an ambient album with Alanis Morissette.
Tlacael Esparza, drummer and co-founder of Sunhouse, created Sensory Percussion to bridge the gap between physical expressivity of drums and the sonic power of electronic production. Using innovative sensors and algorithms, Sensory Percussion allows computers to capture timbre nuances, revolutionizing drumming and computer communication. Esparza integrates Sensory Percussion into his drum set while jamming in DARKSIDE.
In recent years, Nicolás Jaar has focused on teaching electronic music software to non- music makers and sharing creative processes with aspiring artists, teaching at the Museum of Memory in Chile, at free.wav in Kerela, India, and his label's grant programs Ladridos (for aspiring musicians in South America) and Overtones in Los Angeles, USA.
In 2019, Nicolás established a community music studio at Dar Jacir in Bethlehem, Palestine, where his father's family originates and conducted various music workshops there and also at the Al-Rowwad Center in the Aida Refugee Camp.

Queens of the Stone Age - "Carnavoyuer" / June 15 MIDNIGHT CLUB
"Carnovoyeur"
video by Julie Bryant

(presave / preorder 'In Times New Roman...')
Still reeling from the ecstatic reaction to the recently released “Emotion Sickness,” a triumphant return that "finds them at their sinister, bar-band-on-acid best” per New York Magazine, Queens of the Stone Age now unveil “Carnavoyeur,” the latest offering from their epic eighth album, 'In Times New Roman…'
In contrast to its predecessor, “Carnavoyeur” finds QOTSA weaving more subtle shades of sinister: Mesmerizing washes of strings cascade atop the band’s trademark rock solid foundation, while Joshua Homme’s mellifluent vocals swaddle the listener with their warm and all too familiar tones of acceptance and resignation: “When there’s nothing I can do, I smile…” While the stunning, honeyed melodies of “Carnavoyeur” are undeniably, well, really pretty, this is still Queens of the Stone Age, and there’s no shortage of viscera-rumbling drums and bass or spine-chilling guitar interplay.
'In Times New Roman…' will be available across all platforms on June 16th via Matador Records. On the eve of release fans are invited to ring in the album’s release at MIDNIGHT CLUB parties taking place at record shops and pubs across 23 countries. The MIDNIGHT CLUB starts at 11pm June 15th and will feature giveaways, exclusive merch including limited edition colored vinyl, and—in a few select locations—signed merchandise and ticket giveaways. MIDNIGHT CLUB will provide the QOTSA faithful with a first chance to hear In Times New Roman… in its entirety, amongst friends, family and of course appropriate levels of bacchanalia.

out today : Water From Your Eyes - 'Everyone's Crushed'

stream/purchase 'Everyone's Crushed'
Water From Your Eyes have released their new album and Matador debut ‘Everyone’s Crushed’. Across the record's 9 tracks, Rachel Brown (they/them) and Nate Amos (he/him) find silliness and fatalism dancing in a frantic lockstep, using heart palpitating rhythms and absurdist, deadpan lyrics to convey stories of personal and societal unease. Described by Brown as Water From Your Eyes’ most collaborative record ever, it’s a swollen contusion of an album: experimental pop music that’s pretty and violent, raw and indelible.
They are currently supporting Interpol throughout their UK dates. In June, they’ll embark on a run of east coast headline shows, followed in the fall by a west coast run with Melody’s Echo Chamber. The band are also confirmed for Summerstage in Central Park this July, Way Out West, Lowlands, and Greenman Festivals across Europe in August, and Pitchfork Festival in London, Paris and Berlin this November. A complete list of upcoming dates can be found below.
