"The video focuses, albeit abstractly, on the idea of observation and surveillance in our society particularly in our cities via the relentless and invasive accumulation of information… The video takes reference from the step and repeat edits seen in Ernie Gehr’s ‘Serene Velocity,' abstract streets scenes as observed by Peter Hutton's ‘New York Portraits’ and the erratic patterns in Len Lye’s film ‘Free Radicals’ while also leaning towards the pace of Cabaret Voltaire’s 80’s video output.”

This morning at 10am, the new Kurt Vile album, 'b'ieve i'm going down...' is co-premiering via Philadelphia's WXPN, New York's WFUV, Minneapolis' KCMP and Seattle's KEXP, along with the streaming player above. Later this week, Kurt will be appearing on TBS' "Conan" on Thursday night, and performing the following day on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic".
Below are shots of what the triple LP edition of 'b'lieve i'm goin (deep) down...'. Aside from the packaging being equal parts elaborate/awesome, we're gonna blow our own label trumpet (for a change) about the very high quality of the pressing, as manufacturing by the Czech Republic's CZ Media. We're painfully aware there's been a number of (justifiable) complaints regarding quality control in a number of titles you've faithfully purchased of late, but we feel pretty confident you're gonna be pleased with the results this time. And then there's the musical contents (for which we bear no responsibility whatsoever and insist you send complaints directly to Kurt and/or Yelp).

Hi! We shot this video in Montreal with Neil Corcoran. We used his camera as well as my friend Kyle's camera. It's very home-made, shot quickly.
I mainly believe in videos as an expression of the artist(s) themselves, and this is the video I wanted to make. It's not flashy or spectacular, but I think it does the mood of the band justice, which is most important to me. In any case, I made it myself so that it feels good to put it out.- Devon Welsh

Earlier this year, Chris Lombardi began bugging the rest of us with Bandcamp links to someone or something called Car Seat Headrest. After getting over the initial shock of Chris circulating Bandcamp links, it was like, HELLO RABBIT HOLE. As it turned, Car Seat Headrest is the adopted moniker of 22 year old Will Toledo, previously of Leesburg, VA, currently ensconced in Seattle, WA. While we've been puttering around in record label hell, Will's banged out no fewer than 11 straight-to-internet albums in the past 5 years and they're nothing short of amazing. Whatever limited notion we've had of bedroom recording / solo / no-fi auteur-isms was pretty much blown to bits by the quality of Will's songs, if not the staggering stylistic range. That we're not the only ones thoroughly obsessed with the Car Seat Headrest ouevre is less of a surprise --- w/ zero label or rock biz backing, Will's amassed a substantial, more than slightly fanatical following. We'd have been skeptical, too, had we not heard the stuff!
Fast forward to Autumn, 2015 and we're releasing Car Seat Headrest's 'Teens Of Style' on October 30, an album featuring revised versions of songs from '3' (2010), 'My Back Is Killing Me Baby' (2011), and 'Monomania' (2012). Calling it a primer on Car Seat Headrest doesn't really do justice to the emotional wallop packed by this album, but since it wouldn't be technically incorrect, you can go right ahead (provided you specifically reference the emotional wallop).
A new Car Seat Headrest studio album, 'Teens Of Denial', follows in early 2016. I'd say we're losing our minds over this stuff except that could be used as grounds to wrest control of the company away from us, so let's just leave it at we-couldn't-be-more-thrilled to introduce you to the world of Will Toledo (unless no introduction is necessary, in which case you already know why we're making such a big deal about this)
