Turn On The Bright Lights Screening Event and Round Table Discussion

To celebrate the release of TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS: THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION, the IFC in New York are hostng a very special event on Monday 3rd December, the eve of the record's digital release*. A screening of rare footage from early Interpol performances and music videos will be followed by a roundtable discussion about TOTBL and it's position in the musical landscape of the early 2000s, featuring Sam Fogarino and Daniel Kessler from the band, Pitchfork founder Ryan Schreiber, Other Music co-owner Josh Madell and moderated by NYU Professor Amanda Petrusich. This promises to be a special evening and will also be your first chance to get your hands on the record itself in all it's glory.

Get your tickets here.

*Please note: Unfortunately, due to a manufacturing delay, the CD and vinyl street dates have pushed a week from Dec 3(UK)/4(US) to Dec 10/11. Digital street date remains the same, and there will be advance physical stock at the event!

It's Summer, Get To Know Your TANLINES

SUMMER IS  HERE!...ok well it officially starts tomorrow but we can't contain our excitement so we're getting started a day early.   Ahhh Summer, the season of extended daylight, backyard BBQs, road trips with friends, summer playlists, and Tanlines + Lemonade of course.

Apologies for that simple and obvious play on words.  But honestly as sure as you're likely to have some tan lines after laying around the pool drinking a glass of lemonade this summer, we're convinced both bands (Tanlines and Lemonade) will be on your iPods/stereos while doing so.  But don't take our word for it, Creator's Project said that Tanlines are "destined to become your summer soundtrack", and New York Magazine, Stereogum, and Refinery 29 couldn't agree more, naming "All Of Me" one of their Songs Of The Summer.

Anyhow since we'll be spending all summer together, it's probably a good time to get to know your Tanlines better.  Courtesy of Creator's Project, click HERE for an intimate look at the band Tanlines, their recording process, how they formed, and much much more.

Also Tanlines will be performing across the US all summer long, starting tomorrow night with an official summer kick off show at the House of Vans in Brooklyn.  A full list of summer tour dates is below.

Never Mind The Oscars, CHAIN GANG ARE BACK...

...on the big screen, anyway. Chain Gang's centuries in the making "Mondo Manhattan" receives a screening Saturday, March 3 at 1pm as part of NYC's Demented Film Festival . You really don't want to know what kind of VIP gift bag opportunities there are at this event.

This monumental occasion comes very quickly on the heels of Chain Gang's Ricky Luanda releasing a limited edition 7" to accompany the deluxe paperback of Boo-Hooray's "Ed Wood's Sleaze Paperbacks". WIth all due respect to Lana Del Rey, Jeremy Lin and Rick Santorum with this flurry of activity, 2012 is quickly shaping up to be The Year Of Chain Gang.

...or Chase ATM's.   Grisly footage of what used to be the Mars Bar, locale of some fantastic first dates (and just as many last dates, I'd imagine).  Photo swiped from EV Grieve, chroniclers of a once vibrant neighborhood being turned into, well, something that might still be fun if you're either under 22 or a millionaire (preferably both).

NYC Girls Fans: Buy The Album, Get A Free Ticket

Sometimes over here at Matador HQ we like to try wacky shit like making videos featuring famous funny guys or buying a single Soda Stream for 15 people to use and then wonder why it runs out of gas after a day and a half.

But this time we're doing something a little more simple and a lot more awesome.

As you already know, Girls are playing Terminal 5 on Saturday January 14. As you probably know, tickets are disappearing faster than (insert Kardashian wedding joke here). So just for you, NYC, we've teamed up with some of the best independent records stores in the Big Apple to offer a FREE TICKET when you purchase a copy of Father, Son, Holy Ghost (while supplies last, of course).

Simple as that. Buy the new album at regular price, get a free ticket to the show at Terminal 5.

Visit Other Music, Generation Records, Sound Fix, Permanent Records or Academy Annex NOW because they've each only got a handful of tickets. Do it. DO IT. See you at the show.

Thurston Moore's Demolished Thoughts "Take Away Show"

Mission of Burma / Boston & New York City shows announced for early 2010!

MofB1

So it's been a mere couple of weeks since Mission of Burma celebrated their very own day in Boston (technically they were in Cambridge, but really folks lets not knit pick) and even longer since their killer set at Jelly NYC's Pool Party (that had no pool, again folks let's not get caught up in the details) in Brooklyn this past July.  Well fear not Northeasterners, Burma's tour plans include coming back our way and not just hitting the West Coast .   As the saying goes, "back by popular demand", Mission of Burma have 4 new shows to announce, 2 in Boston (Paradise Rock Club on Fri, 1/15 + Sat, 1/16/10) and 2 in NYC (Bowery Ballroom on Fri, 1/29 + Sat, 1/30/10).

Pre-sale tickets for the Boston shows go up today at 10am.  CLICK HERE to order tickets.  Tickets are $20 for one show and $35 for both shows.  The pre-sale is only available to those purchasing 2-Day Passes.  You know what they say, double the Burma, double the Fun.  Ok maybe only we say that but we believe it.  General ticket sales for the Boston shows start on Sat, 10/31.

As for the NYC shows just CLICK HERE to purchase tickets to a single show or a 2-Day pass.

Beggars Group/Matador CMJ Party, Thursday October 22

[caption id="attachment_6426" align="alignnone" width="515" caption="(poster by Eric Losh)"](poster by Eric Losh)[/caption]

The kid-tested, Big Bear-approved Beggars Group CMJ Party (not to be confused with the Matador/True Panther jam happening the following night) goes down Thursday, October 22 at Bowery Electric (327 Bowery) from 11pm to the wee hours of the morning, and will feature, among other things, a DJ set by the one and only Gerard Cosloy. RSVP does NOT guarantee entry so please, for the love of God, get there early so we can rage together.

Kurt Vile live on WNYU, 4:30 PM EDT

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="540" caption="photo by Shawn Brackbill"]photo by Shawn Brackbill[/caption]

It's a good week to be a Kurt Vile fan. Fresh from the weekend's pair of Philly shows, Mr. Vile will be playing a solo acoustic set on WNYU's New Afternoon Show starting at 4:30 PM Eastern. Tune in at 89.1 FM in New York, or online at wnyu.org.

The Kurt Vile excitement train continues with tomorrow's release of his Matador debut, Childish Prodigy (which you can still stream here), and two live NYC performances on Wednesday, October 7: a solo performance for WFMU's 7 Second Delay Live at the UCB Theater, and a headlining show (with The Violators) at Mercury Lounge. Full tour, and world domination, to follow.

Yo La Tengo on WFMU today at 3pm

You may have noticed that we've been going on a bit about tonight's epic Yo La Tengo show at Roseland in New York City, and well, what can I say? We're excited. Other excited parties, and human beings in general, should tune in to WFMU at 3:00 this afternoon, when Yo La Tengo's always entertaining bassist James McNew will chat by phone with David Suisman on his Inner Ear Detour show. Also, I do believe David will be playing some music from the new album Popular Songs, which as I'm sure you can imagine is a favorite around these parts.

You can engage with WFMU on the radio dial at 91.1 FM (NYC/East Central NJ) and on WMFU, 90.1 FM (Hudson Valley, Lower Catskills, Western NJ). If those parenthetical locations don't work for you, there's always online listening at wfmu.org.
