Interpol - Live at Zocálo, Mexico City
Interpol will play the biggest show of their career at Mexico City’s 280,000 capacity main ceremonial square, the Plaza de la Constitución, better known as Zócalo, on Saturday April 20th. The show comes at the request of the Mexican Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza. Fellow Matador artist Water From Your Eyes joins as direct support.

Estamos absolutamente electrificados de emoción al anunciar que daremos un concierto gratuito para nuestros fans mexicanos, y de hecho, para fans de todas partes, en el Zócalo en el corazón de la Ciudad de México el sábado 20 de abril de 2024.

New York’s Water From Your Eyes closed out 2023 with an avalanche of vastly-deserved praise for their Matador Records debut, 'Everyone’s Crushed', including nods from New York Times, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Vogue, Stereogum, The Guardian, NME, Wired, and many more.
There’s more to come in 2024. Next month, the band will embark on a full US tour with Brighton, UK’s Squid. These performances will formally debut the band’s new quartet lineup, featuring guitarist Al Nardo and drummer Bailey Wollowitz.
And today, you can watch a brand new video for the still-very-fresh 'Everyone’s Crushed' burner, “Out There.” (above)

When we heard “Out There” for the first time, we connected with its intensity, and the feelings of pent-up energy and confinement it inspired. When we got to talking with Rachel and Nate about their vision for the album we sensed an overlap between their music and our visual inclinations as filmmakers; decaying consumer destinations, shopping centers, fluorescent hallways, that sort of thing. Keeping all of that in mind, we decided to use an old family-owned pet store in Queens for our primary location. The animals and well-worn look of things brought the emotion of the song to life for us, and we were able to approach the video in much the same way we do our 16mm documentary work.
The band and filmmakers will be holding a screening party for the video tonight at Alphaville in Brooklyn at 8pm.
Water From Your Eyes will remain on the road through much of the spring, including a US tour with Real Estate and appearances at Kilby Block Party, Primavera Sound, Best Kept Secret, and Wilco’s Solid Sound with further dates to be announced.

Out today, 'Crushed By Everyone' is a song-by-song rework of Water From Your Eyes’ critically-adored Matador debut, 'Everyone’s Crushed'.
Curated by band members Rachel Brown and Nate Amos, the album dips heavily into WFYE’s personal rolodex with contributions that map the duo’s rapidly expanding community – friends, tourmates, and peers. It’s the rare “remix” record where everybody has met in person (or at least shared some DMs). Kassie Krut twists the title track up amid tumbling kick drums and snare pops. Nourished by Time croons atop a chopped up and scrambled “True Life.” The record also finds Water From Your Eyes reinterpreting themselves, with Nate dialing Nu Metal grind and microtonal drone into an undeniably epic update on “Barley".
Earlier this month, Water From Your Eyes appeared as a musical guest on The Best Show, performing a five-song set.
In February, the band will be back on the road supporting Squid on a full US tour, performing in a newly-minted quartet lineup featuring live drums. Water From Your Eyes will conclude their Europe tour tonight with a performance at Primavera Weekender. The run has received rave reviews, with Pitchfork writing "If there’s still such a thing as distinctively New York cool, we were witnessing it."

Water From Your Eyes have taken on recent touring companions Interpol’s track “Something Changed” as part of the latter’s ‘Interpolations’ project, which sees songs from Interpol’s latest album ‘The Other Side Of Make-Believe’ reimagined by different artists.
Taking the original’s punch-drunk piano shuffle and brooding vocals and subjecting them to an expertly wielded sonic and rhythmic sledgehammer, the interpolation adds vocals from Water From Your Eyes vocalist Rachel Brown. “The idea was to invert the tone of the song, like a photo negative,” says Water From Your Eyes’ Nate Amos, “reframing change from something foreboding into something encouraging - as well as creating a conversation between Paul and Rachel in order to place the thoughts externally rather than internally.”
Water From Your Eyes recently performed three songs from their critically acclaimed new album ‘Everyone’s Crushed’ for Bandcamp Live. Joined by additional guitarist Al Nardo, the band shred through album highlights “Barley”, “Out There” and “True Life”. The performance is followed by a conversation with journalist Shaad D’Souza.

This autumn, Water From Your Eyes will return to the UK and EU for a run of dates, which include appearances at Pitchfork Festivals in Berlin, Paris, and London, headline dates in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Margate and Bristol, and the Primavera Weekender in Benidorm. Tickets for the headline shows will go on sale Friday, June 9th, at 10am BST / 11am CEST HERE.
The band’s new album and Matador debut, Everyone’s Crushed, has met with effusive and near-universal praise, including top marks from Pitchfork (8.3, Best New Music), The Guardian (**** ‘Album of the Week’), Stereogum (‘Album of the Week’), and Rolling Stone (****). Water From Your Eyes have released their new album and Matador debut ‘Everyone’s Crushed’. Across the record's 9 tracks, Rachel Brown (they/them) and Nate Amos (he/him) find silliness and fatalism dancing in a frantic lockstep, using heart palpitating rhythms and absurdist, deadpan lyrics to convey stories of personal and societal unease. Described by Brown as Water From Your Eyes’ most collaborative record ever, it’s a swollen contusion of an album: experimental pop music that’s pretty and violent, raw and indelible.
They are currently supporting Interpol throughout their UK dates. In June, they’ll embark on a run of east coast headline shows, followed in the fall by a west coast run with Melody’s Echo Chamber. Water From Your Eyes have released a new single and video ‘14,’ the latest preview from their forthcoming album and Matador debut ‘Everyone’s Crushed,’ out May 26th.
A crescendo of swelling strings, pizzicato and electronic drone moving around a cyclical vocal refrain of “How many is 14?,” the band describe the song as “a quasi-serial inkblot signifying submission to personal demons and the realization that change is both necessary and inevitable.” Watch the widescreen black & white video directed by the band’s Rachel Brown HERE.
On the video, Brown says:
“I was largely inspired by “Meshes of the Afternoon”, “Last Year in Marienbad”, and “Spirited Away,” as well as the painting “The Triumph of Baccus” by Diego Velázquez, a favorite of Nate’s. I wanted to capture the feeling of being haunted by one’s own inner turmoils and the act of letting those conflicts go.”
Having just concluded a US tour with Snail Mail, Water From Your Eyes will support Interpol on their UK dates in May. In June, they’ll embark on a run of east coast headline shows, followed in the fall by a west coast run with Melody’s Echo Chamber. The band are also confirmed for Pitchfork Festival in London, Paris and Berlin and November. Find a complete list of upcoming dates below.

Out May 26, ‘Everyone’s Crushed’ is the Matador Records debut from Brooklyn duo Water From Your Eyes. Today, watch the animated video for the album’s second single, "True Life," which teams ping-ponging guitar riffs with drop-tuned bass and an unexpected shoutout to Neil Young.
“‘True Life’ is our Neil Young-inspired quasi-nu metal stomp,” explains the band. “It is also intended to be our ‘Short Skirt / Long Jacket.’ The bridge was initially meant to contain lyrics from ‘Cinnamon Girl,’ but Neil Young’s lawyers wouldn’t let us use them. Now they are about how Neil Young wouldn’t let us use his words. The rest of the song deals with life and assorted complications of the material world.”

Coming May 26: Water From Your Eyes - 'Everyone's Crushed' + "Barley" Out Today

Life is horribly dark right now. And yet, it is not unfunny.
That’s the sentiment that animates Water From Your Eyes on their new album, and first for Matador, ‘Everyone’s Crushed,’ out May 26. On the follow-up to the Brooklyn duo’s 2021 breakthrough, ‘Structure,’ Rachel Brown (they/them) and Nate Amos (he/him) find silliness and fatalism dancing in a frantic lockstep, using heart palpitating rhythms and absurdist, deadpan lyrics to convey stories of personal and societal unease. Described by Brown as Water From Your Eyes’ most collaborative record ever, it’s a swollen contusion of an album: experimental pop music that’s pretty and violent, raw and indelible.

“Barley is a rhythmic sound collage experiment drawing from modern classical, classic rock, and dance music,” explain the band. “The lyrics suggest repeated futile attempts at attaining the unattainable and allude to Sting and Sonic Youth. The video mirrors these concepts in scope, texture, and variety - juxtaposing feelings of entrapment and late stage capitalism against the sense of freedom inherent to the vast American landscape. Despite all this heady bullshit the song is, at its core, fun.”
‘Everyone’s Crushed’ is shot through with unresolved tension, its nine tracks skittishly refusing to seek out resolute endings or stick to traditional structures. Many songs were written using serialism and microtonalism, and at times evoke the futurist-pop moves of Japanese composer Haruomi Hosono and the brutalism of Glenn Branca. “Barley”is a dance-rock track sequenced in alien tonality, with Brown speaking garbled transmissions (“One two three/Counter/You’re a cool thing count mountains”) over a bed of hallucinatory guitars. “14” leans into contemporary classical, with curtains of overlapping de-tuned strings underscoring lyrics that Nate describes as something out of a “gross-out horror movie”: “I’m ready to throw you up.”
Water From Your Eyes still possess an off kilter, shitposty quality. ‘Everyone’s Crushed’ manages to reference classic rock twice – first, on “Barley,” when Brown accidentally invokes Sting with the lyric “walk in fields of gold,” and again on “True Life”, when they sing: “Neil let me sing your song/It’s been this way for so long/Give me another chance.” Those weren’t the song’s original lyrics – Brown and Amos initially wanted to interpolate the bridge to “Cinnamon Girl” – but this is a typically meta compromise for the pair, a way to turn “True Life” into a song about writing the song “True Life”.
‘Everyone’s Crushed’ maps the liminal space between humor and darkness, between cracking up and freaking out. In the album’s closing moments Brown speaks in direct terms, “Clap those hands/Buy my product/There are no happy endings/I’m spending/I’m spending.” It’s playful and totally serious, punky bordering on anarchic, and a resolution to the record’s opening sentiment - “I just wanted to pray for the rain/Wishful thinking for sunny days.”

Matador Records is excited to welcome Brooklyn, NYC duo Water From Your Eyes to the label, with a new album due in the first half of 2023.
To mark the occasion, Water From Your Eyes will host a weekly live residency in New York throughout March. Tickets are free and available here. The band has also launched a newsletter, which you can sign up for here.
Water From Your Eyes will also headline shows in London, Brighton, Paris and Brussels before supporting Interpol in Spain and Portugal throughout February.
On the matter of joining the label, the band provided the following words
“This is all very crazy and we aren’t exactly sure what to say besides that it’s incredibly exciting and we are so fortunate to be working with such an amazing group of people. Neither one of us has fully processed the situation but I’m sure that this announcement will bring us closer to grasping reality—as much as the two of us are capable of such a task. We are so grateful to have this opportunity and there are not enough words in the English language to encapsulate our feelings of gratitude at this time. Nevertheless, thanks a bunch. This rocks.”
The ever-evolving project of Rachel Brown (they/them) and Nate Amos (he/him), Water From Your Eyes have released a stream of confoundingly anarchic, dizzyingly inventive, and increasingly recognised experimental pop music. The duo formed in Chicago in 2016 and are now based in Brooklyn.
The band’s 2021 breakout Structure, led by singles “When You’re Around” and "“Quotations”” (not be confused with the similarly titled ”Quotations”’ on the same album), was described by Pitchfork in their Rising feature as "... organized chaos built from the remnants of distorted post-punk, glitchy dance music, inquisitive orchestrals, and snatches of Exquisite Corpse-like word collages". “It holds your gaze long after the mystery fades, “ the album review stated, “channeling a powerful sense of empathy to mesmerizing effect."
Also released in 2021, 'Somebody Else’s Songs' (a reference to the band’s own 2019 album 'Somebody Else’s Song' that won them early attention) was a collection of transmogrified covers encompassing Eminem, Tears For Fears, OMC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Jackson and Nico. The band member’s individual solo projects, Thanks For Coming (Brown), and This Is Lorelei (Amos), highlight further shades of the duo’s respective fascinations and personalized output.
