Hi,
We put together this “EP” of songs that we recorded when we were working on “Are You Alone?”, but which didn’t fit on that album for one reason or another. They aren’t more recent than the songs on AYA — they date from different periods of time, one of them is among the earliest songs written for AYA and others are more recent. Despite the fact that it’s a collection of songs that didn’t make the record, I think there is a feeling that links them all together (which is maybe why they didn’t fit on AYA). We hope you enjoy these songs!

We are going on tour in North America and then in Australia in January and February. These are the only dates we have planned right now, so if you want to see us, definitely try to come out to one of these shows. I know some of them are sold out. We tried to move the show into bigger venues where we could (and we did in Vancouver) but in some cases we couldn’t make it happen. So sorry if the show is sold out and you wanted to come.

She-Devils are going to be supporting us on all our shows in North America, which is really exciting. They are really good, so if you’re coming to the shows make sure to come early enough to see them.

It will be our first time in Australia, and it’s difficult to imagine the next time I will be back there (through music or not) so if you’re in Australia and are into our band, this is the time to see us!
Okay!

VIDEO : Majical Cloudz - "Silver Car Crash"

(Devon Welsh photo by Sarah O’Driscoll)

Hi! We shot this video in Montreal with Neil Corcoran. We used his camera as well as my friend Kyle's camera. It's very home-made, shot quickly.
I mainly believe in videos as an expression of the artist(s) themselves, and this is the video I wanted to make. It's not flashy or spectacular, but I think it does the mood of the band justice, which is most important to me. In any case, I made it myself so that it feels good to put it out.

Majical Cloudz - 'Are You Alone?' Coming October 16, "Silver Car Crash" Premiere

In 2013, the Canadian musical-performance art project Majical Cloudz released Impersonator via label Matador, garnering global praise as one of the year's best albums. Since then, principle writer and vocalist Devon Welsh has been fastidiously crafting the band's second studio album, while simultaneously touring the world with producer Matthew Otto. Today, Majical Cloudz announce their anticipated sophomore LP, 'Are You Alone?', arriving in-stores and online around the world on October 16th.

Building off a solidly-laid visual and sonic foundation, the narrative remains - simple yet emotionally forthcoming lyrics showcasing raw vulnerability, backed by sparse instrumentation and minimalist production. Welsh delivers melancholic but melody driven vocals echoing off elemental tones, praising love and friendship, commiserating over heartbreak and sadness. Written and recorded between Montreal and Detroit, it comes as no surprise that Welsh and Otto have created another soulful novella, continuing to contribute to the evolution of sound in pop, indie, and electronic music.

This morning, Majical Cloudz are sharing the first single off of 'Are You Alone?', "Silver Car Crash",

TRACKLISTING:
1. Disappeared
2. Control
3. Are You Alone?
4. So Blue
5. Heavy
6. Silver Car Crash
7. Change
8. If You're Lonely
9. Downtown
10. Easier Said Than Done
11. Game Show
12. Call On Me

MAJICAL CLOUDZ - "YOUR EYES"

Below is a thank you note and gift (new song "Your Eyes") from Majical Cloudz' Devon Welsh:

Hi all, Over the last five weeks we have had some of the best experiences we have ever had as a band.

A lot of it still feels unreal. We played 20 shows with Lorde. We met an uncountable number of people at the shows and played for even more. We did it all with a crew of 4 people in a minivan. How did this happen?

We were met with positive and warm receptions at all of these shows. We were never booed or heckled (although if we had been I would have understood). I believe this to be a testament to the curiosity and open-mindedness of Lorde’s audiences. Every single night, we were extremely excited to be there and I think people recognized that and returned the energy.

To everyone who came to these shows and saw us perform, to everyone who we spoke to afterwards: thank you! Your participation made those shows happen and although you probably didn’t come with us in mind, your presence was important to us.

As a thank you we are giving away this song, “Your Eyes”. I originally recorded it in 2011, and when Matt and I started playing shows together as Majical Cloudz this was always part of the set. It’s kind of a relic of the earliest period of our life as a band, so if you are finding out about us for the first time in the wake of our tour with Lorde, this will take you back to the beginning of our music-making days together. We made this new version just before we left on tour, so in one sense it is old and in another sense it is new.

It has been great meeting all of you. We will be touring the USA again soon, and in the meantime we are working on a bunch of new music.

-Devon

Lots of interesting Majical Cloudz stuff happening in 2014 so keep your eyes peeled.

Coming 12/3 : A Lower-Than-Low Priced Compilation LP Of Matador 2013 Highlights

OK, we missed Black Friday by a few days, but if that means ONE LESS TRAMPLING this holiday shopping season, it was totally worth it.  On December 3, we're releasing a limited edition, one-time pressing of a $5.99 list LP , 'It's Been A Business Doing Pleasure With You', featuring 9 songs from (most of) our 2013 releases. In addition to album tracks from Chelsea Light Moving, Majical Cloudz, Body/Head, Lee Ranaldo & The Dust, Iceage and Kurt Vile, there's a live version of Queens of the Stone Age performing "If I Had A Tail" at the 2013 iTunes Festival (Roundhouse, London),  Savages' "City's Full" from last summer's KEXP session, and Yo La Tengo performing "Before We Run" in those same KEXP studios.

We don't have any copies for mail order, sadly, but hopefully you'll find one at your favorite record store after they're done sweeping up all the broken glass, blood, etc. from Black Friday.  If you prefer, you can order a digital version of the comp. right now at the Matador Store.

Listen to Majical Cloudz' "Savage"

Composed around the same time that Devon Welsh wrote Impersonator, "Savage" has been an integral part of Majical Cloudz' live show for quite some time.

In regards to "Savage", Devon Welsh of Majical Cloudz notes "I think it's important to explain a song a little bit, but not too much. The song is written about a specific set of circumstances and experiences, and Matt and I did such-and-such when we recorded it, but ultimately what the song is 'about' is less important than how and why it is meaningful for you when you listen to it. Explaining too much about the details of the song is not the point, so I won't. "Savage" is about a friendship, it's mysteries and it's moments of excitement, and the way drugs played into all of it. It's about letting go of a relationship as it changes and the emotions that go along with that."

"Savage" is the first new material the duo has released following the release of Impersonator earlier this year.
