The MataBlog is edited by Matador Records’ co-moaner Gerard Cosloy and individual entries are the work of whoever’s name is next to them. If you enjoyed something in the MataBlog, thank you very much! If there was something you found particularly troubling, please be advised that a) maybe you should read it again and b) the contents of this blog do not necessarily represent the opinions of Matador Records, Beggars Group, the combined staff of either company, nor the Matador artist roster. Opinions are like friends — hardly anyone has one worth listening to.

Matador Alumni Corner : There's A New Thalia Zedek EP

Dear Friends,

Since 1982, I've had the privilege of standing around trying to pry my jaw off the floor while Thalia Zedek uses 6 strings and a voice that's seen/felt-it-all to draw blood and much, much more.  While everything she's done (Dangerous Birds, Uzi, Live Skull, Come) has run the gamut from great to really great her last couple of solo recordings for Thrill Jockey are kinda like Everest or K2 compared to 2001's 'Been Here & Gone' (or as I've started calling it, "Lhotse I" --- ASK MARK OHE).

Anyhow, the reason I bring this up at 3:30am on a Saturday is because Thalia's new limited edition EP, 'Six' (also available from Thrill Jockey) is apparently only available in very limited numbers and maybe I purchased the last copy in Lower Manhattan, maybe I didn't.  You shouldn't take my word for it no matter what.

Free All Ages Come Instore

So you mean to tell me that Come - with original lineup of Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw, Arthur Johnson and Sean O’Brien - are playing a free, all ages instore the night of the final show on their US tour in Atlanta at the famed Criminal Records.

And while you're there, be absolutely fucking sure that you pick up a copy of the reissue of "one of the best rock albums of all time."

You'll probably be treated to at least one version of " Submerge"

COME - '11:11' Deluxe Double LP / Double CD Reissue In Stores Today

Our 20th anniversary edition of Come's astonishing 1993 debut, '11:11' is in stores today ; I'd love to show you a photo of how awesome the packaging is, but either someone has misplaced the camera in our New York office or they're worried that you'll be blinded by the sheer brilliance of it all. But rest assured, band + associates knocked it out of the park (or, if you deeply dislike inappropriate baseball analogies, they've done appropriate justice to one of the most important album in this label's history).

Over at The Awl, Choire Sicha's interview with Thalia Zedek touches on the band's history, their recent reunion (clips from last week's shows in Germany and Holland are above and below, respectively), the nutty '90's and Thalia's solo work.

From The Owings Archives To Your Eyeballs : Come, Live In Cambridge, MA, March, 1991

We're told this might be footage from Come's first public performance. Perhaps you thought this would be the post where we'd announce the presale for the May reissue of Come's debut album, 'Eleven : Eleven'. Or maybe even the post where some live dates would be unveiled. If you should know anything by now, it's that we have a tendency to drag this shit out. "Are they being paid by the post?" you might well wonder, and why yes, in fact WE ARE. (video courtesy Chunklet)

Coming May 7 : A Deluxe Reissue of Come's- 'Eleven : Eleven'

Way back in 1993,  when things like newsstands and magazines still existed, Entertainment Weekly's David Browne called 'Eleven : Eleven', the first album from Boston's Come, "enthralling, like watching someone howl into a rainstorm." The album in  question was the result of a collision between Boston/New York guitarist/vocalist Thalia Zedek (formerly of Dangerous Birds, Uzi and Live Skull), Oberlin product / guitar wizard Chris Brokaw, and one of the more powerful rhythm sections of the last half century, drummer Arthur Johnson and bassist Sean O'Brien.  Despite being one of the best album in this label's long history and one of the more memorable debut albums in an era full of 'em, 'Eleven : Eleven' has been out of print for far too long.   This May, however, that situation is rectified with a deluxe, double disc reissue (2XLP, 2XCD) comprising the original album plus a bonus disc featuring Come's October 10, 1992 performance at the Vermonstress Festival.   The 2XLP edition will also include a bonus 7", a reissue of the "Fast Piss Blues" b/w "I Got The Blues" single.

Matador will handle the North and South American release  ;   Glitterhouse will be reissuing 'Eleven : Eleven' in the same configurations in Europe.

After a handful of reunion shows in 2010 and 2011, Come's original lineup will be playing selected shows later this year.   In addition, Thalia Zedek's 5th solo album and first since 2008, 'Via', is being released by Thrill Jockey this March, while Chris Brokaw is currently touring the West Coast with former labelmate Jennifer O'Connor in support of his most recent solo album.

Come - Back In Action

Following a terrific performance at last October's Matador 21/ Lost Weekend in Las Vegas, Come are again returning to the stage, playing Brooklyn's Bell House on Saturday, April 16, along with Chicago's Eleventh Dream Day (whose new Thrill Jockey album, 'Riot Now' is available at better record shops).  Tickets are available here.

(ADDENDUM : Come are also playing Cambridge, MA's Oberon Theatre on April 14).

REVISED SCHEDULE : Matador At 21 : The Lost Weekend In Las Vegas, The Palms

"The Lost Weekend" - Matador 21 In Las Vegas, Tickets On Sale This Friday, July 9

Tickets for "The Lost Weekend" aka Matador's 21st birthday celebrations at The Palms will go on sale this Friday morning at 9am, PST. Here's the details you've been hassling all of us about over the last week (and don't think we don't appreciate it)

a) Tickets/Pricing : An initial quantity will be on sale Friday for $SOLD. .After the $SOLD tickets sell out, the price increases to $SOLD.  A Ticketfly.com link will be posted on this site on Thursday, July 8th.  Starting Friday, you'll have the opportunity to reserve standard rooms at the Palms for the discounted rate of $SOLD per night (the full 3 nights of the festival, only). The rooms feature two double bed and occupancy of up to 4 persons is allowed. The above rate is only available when purchasing tickets thru us. If you are interested in upgrading to a larger room or a suite you will be able to do so after purchasing the standard room. TICKETS FOR THE 3 NIGHTS  + ROOMS are being sold jointly --- we're not selling tickets to the shows separately at this time, nor are we selling tickets for individual nights.

(ADDENDUM -i) A limited number of 3-day tickets priced at  $SOLD---with no Palms reservation required --- will be available Friday morning at 9am PST  via Ticketfly.com

ii)  if, for example, you're buying 4 tickets to the shows, the $SOLD per night hotel fee can cover up to 4 people.  $SOLD over 3 nights divided by 4 is hopefully not an crazy amount to charge for rooms in a world class resort).

B) VIP tickets. A limited number of VIP packages will be available at $SOLD --- details about what you'll get for the $SOLD are forthcoming. You'll have the ability to upgrade from the regular tickets, assuming the VIP tickets aren't sold out.

C) Venue. The room in question is the 2100 seat Pearl at the Palms.

D) MORE BANDS. OK, we're working on it. But in addition to the 19 artists confirmed on the above poster, we can confirm the original lineup of COME --- Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw, Sean O'Brien and Arthur Johnson --- will be participating. Actually, we already know who some of the other bands are, we're just trying to drag this out.    MORE MATABLOG CONTENT between now and October!

E) Set times -  we'll post these the week before the event.

F) These shows are open to all ages.  However, access to the casino floor is limited to those 21 and over.

F) WHAT ABOUT LAS VEGAS HUMANS?  Las Vegas' Zia Records is selling 50 tickets to "The Lost Weekend" starting Friday, July 9.  You'll need a Nevada I.D.  Reservations at the Palms are not required to purchase these tickets.
