On February 24th, Matador will release a deluxe digital edition of Mdou Moctar’s 'Afrique Victime', which expands the album with nine previously unreleased songs, including the studio outtake, “Nakanegh Dich.” “These are a mix of demos from Niger and some live tracks from touring around the world, when we were still working out the songs together as a band,” says bassist and producer Mikey Coltun. “These are fun and different early versions of the songs.”

Today, you can listen to “Nakanegh Dich,” recorded in Los Angeles with Rob Schnapf during sessions for the album. “This is Mdou's very first time using a wah pedal,” explains bassist and producer, Mikey Coltun. “At some point, Mdou called Rob into the studio and asked him to control the wah with his foot while Mdou shredded a solo.”

Snail Mail - "Adore You"

photo : Ebru Yildiz

Today, Snail Mail (Lindsey Jordan) has shared “Adore You,” the early demo version of the lead single and title track off of her critically acclaimed new album 'Valentine.' Featuring early lyrics and a different structure, the whispered, vulnerable lo-fi version is a sonically opposite yet equally devastating flipside, proving that in any configuration “Valentine” is as powerful a torch song as they come.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Spoon have shared “My Babe,” the third and final advance listen of their forthcoming album 'Lucifer on the Sofa'. “My Babe” is a song of contrast. Circuit des Yeux - "The Manatee (A Story of The World, Pt. III)"

"The Manatee : A Story of The World, Pt. III"
directed by Ruby Rubio
Concept by Haley Fohr

(photo : Evan Jenkins)

Today, we bring you a brand-new Circuit des Yeux song and video, “The Manatee (A Story of This World Pt. III.” Recorded during the sessions for last year’s masterful and multi-layered full-length '-io', “The Manatee” is a shift in mood – serene astral folk sewn up with whirring aquatic interludes.

Circuit des Yeux’s Haley Fohr on “The Manatee”:
At 4:30 A.M. on February 4th, 2020 a manatee popped out of the sea and stared directly at me. It was a charged 10 seconds. The experience stuck with me so much that I wrote a song about it.

The music video (directed by Rudy Rubio) is a depiction of my own kind of manatee. I play a wet sea creature trying to make it work in a dry-land society. It is inspired by the scientific understanding that the manatee crawled into the ocean 50,000,000 years ago. The manatee is my reminder that intuition and two legs might be all a person needs to find a more hospitable world - perhaps an undiscovered place to call home.

stream / download "The Manatee"
(stream/purchase  '-io')

This spring, Fohr will once again hit the road, bringing '-io' to audiences in North America, Europe, and the UK. Find the complete itinerary below.

Coming June 3 : Lucy Dacus - "Kissing Lessons" 7"

Lucy Dacus - "Kissing Lessons"
directed by Mara Palena

stream / preorder "Kissing Lessons"

Lucy Dacus released 'Home Video' last year, solidifying her place as one of music’s best storytellers, with a remarkable showing on year-end lists. After a series of flyers appeared in several US cities last week with tear-off tabs for a “Kissing Lessons” hotline, a stream of callers to the number then reported being able to hear a new song by Dacus. No longer requiring a phone, “Kissing Lessons” is now available as a single for all to hear. It is accompanied by a video directed by Mara Palena. Complete with hand-drawn hearts and Polaroids, “Kissing Lessons” is another gem mined from Dacus’ childhood in Richmond, Virginia. It was recorded and mixed during the Home Video sessions, and stood out with its sweet and relatable reflection of childhood infatuation as Dacus sings atop infectious guitars, “We’d take turns being seduced // Imagining the day it would come into use // Imagining the day we’d start breaking hearts // And taking names.”

“Kissing Lessons” and “Thumbs Again” will be released as a 7” on June 3rd. The 7” is available for pre-order now.

Next week, Dacus kicks off a US tour where she will play many cities not yet visited in support of Home Video, and a few rescheduled shows from the fall. Additionally, after selling out three Brooklyn Steels last year, Dacus announces a headline performance at New York City’s SummerStage in Central Park on Thursday, July 21st. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 4th at 12pm Eastern.
