VIDEO: Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile + "Continental Breakfast" + Amoeba Hollywood In-Store Announced

This morning, we're happy to share the next take from the upcoming album from Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile, Lotta Sea Lice. The video for "Continental Breakfast" was directed by Danny Cohen (@DannyZCohen), who was also behind the lens for the "Over Everything" video released last month. This new video also spans a great distance (does not get much further than Melbourne and Philly. It's a really special video and we don't throw that world around too much. Watch and you'll see why.

Director Danny Cohen says:
'Continental Breakfast' was made while spending time with Courtney and Kurt in Melbourne and Philadelphia, it's an intimate home movie into their lives and the time spent with family and friends between recording /touring. Shot on 16mm, the mini-documentary captures honest moments that show the loving and playful nature of both Courtney and Kurt. It was such a treat to experience life with Courtney and Kurt in their natural habitats. It really left me feeling like part of the family and hopefully fans can feel that too.

Fans can attend the in-store by picking up Lotta Sea Lice a day early at Amoeba Hollywood starting on Thursday October 12. More details can be found on the flyer below or head to Amoeba.com.

VIDEO: Perfume Genius - "Wreath" + Tour Dates

Today Perfume Genius released a video for No Shape track "Wreath". The video features footage from a contest asking fans to submit themselves dancing to the song. The winning entry, from Esperanza Kroger—dancing freely in
the streets of Cholula, Mexico—can be seen here. After teasing other great entries from throughout the week, the video is finally here.

Mike has said the song is partly about feeling betrayed by his physical body and wanting to be freed from it. The album title is taken from the lyrics — "I wanna hover with no shape...I wanna peel off every weight" — and his goal with the contest and video was to encourage the same sense of ecstatic freedom and abandon that he felt in the studio.

Check out the other videos from No Shape: "Slip Away" and "Die 4 U".

Perfume Genius will be on the road throughout this Fall, opening for The xx for several dates and headlining a tour of his own.

Snail Mail Signs To Matador, Watch Tiny Desk Session

Brooklyn-via-Baltimore singer /songwriter/guitar prodigy Lindsey Jordan aka Snail Mail is the latest addition to the Matador Records roster.  Snail Mail will release a full-length album in 2018, following Sister Polygon's 2017 12" reissue of the of the introductory cassette, 'Habit'.  Snail Mail’s NPR Tiny Desk concert premiered this morning, and might provide a hint or several why press, musical peers (including but not limited to Waxahatchee, Priests and Girlpool), and yeah, record labels have taken so much interest in a short spell..

(prior praise for 'Habit')

“There’s no grandstanding here, no attempts at hiding how truly confusing it is to be young and feel like the world is simultaneously infinite and hopeless. Perhaps that is why Snail Mail sound so alive despite much tangible optimism: there’s no person behind a curtain, the ugly resides in reality." - Quinn Moreland, Pitchfork

“Jordan has a voice that only comes along every now and then … she is able to fit a universe of emotion into a single turn of phrase without any vocal affectation … whether she’s muttering or shouting, you feel the heartbreak, the frustration, the joy that came with writing these lyrics” -Stereogum

"a minimalist swirl of drowsy tempos, unassumingly meticulous guitar parts, and the sort of entry-level existentialism that’s too pure to be pretentious.”  - Patrick D. McDermott, The Fader

Snail Mail on tour:
Wed October 11 The Met Pawtucket, RI *

VIDEO : Julien Baker - "Appointments"

Julien Baker - "Appointments" - directed by Sophia Peer
From the album 'Turn Out The Lights', out October 27

“Making the ‘Appointments' video was an incredibly special experience because I got the pleasure of collaborating with artists I admire and to see them apply their creativity and talent to something I made,” says Baker. "I've known Christina McKinney (choreographer), as well as a few of the dancers, since I was a kid. I've always been fascinated with how that art form works in tandem with music; it was amazing to see the vision that Christina had for the song, how she interpreted the sounds as movement, and then to see how Sophia chose to portray and capture it all.

"It felt very full circle to return to Memphis to work on this, I'm so proud of Memphis and wanted to show off the immense artistry that I see there. Not only were Christina and many of the characters in the video friends, but the crew also included many people I have known and worked with for years. All the scenes and locations are also central to Memphis, I think Sophia did such a good job of preserving the intimate feel of the video by shooting it with people/in locations that had significance to me, and I'm so thankful. The most gratifying part of making music is its ability to be shared and belong to more people than myself, and it was very meaningful to make something with and for other people, to take something as personal as this song and invite others in, allow them to contribute their 'thing,' whatever it may be.” - Julien Baker

Coming October 13: King Krule 'The OOZ' ; Video for "Dum Surfer" Out Now

King Krule's long-awaited album 'The OOZ' will be released October 13th on True Panther Sounds in North America and XL Recordings in Europe. Those who have been particularly anxious for news about this release will be very happy to see some of the details for the release below (including the 19 song-long tracklisting...) Before you get to to that, here's some more info about The OOZ.

"One of the most celebrated figureheads on the independent British scene, Archy Marshall returns with the dense, sprawling The OOZ, the much anticipated follow up to his debut Six Feet Beneath the Moon. Drifting and seeping through the cracks of South London like the album title, King Krule casts an unflinching eye over his kingdom, transforming his observations of all the disorientation and heartbreak of his youth into piercing narratives and poetry that are both startlingly honest and brutally beautiful. With The OOZ, Marshall finally takes the crown as poet laureate for the dazed and confused generation, painting a bleak and sometimes harrowing picture of a rapidly splintering city.

Where Six Feet Beneath the Moon, released in 2013, was a rigorous, rambling excavation of Marshall’s expansive body of work to date, The OOZ snaps into focus quickly and sharply, his modus operandi coming into view almost immediately. Over jazzy curlicues and guitars, the opener “Biscuit Town” sets out its stall irresistibly as Marshall sings about rapidly disintegrating romance and personal dissolution with acute, almost painful detail. These wrenching themes of self-annihilation and fraying relationships seem inextricably linked in Marshall’s eyes – once you lose yourself to someone else, you inevitably wind up losing yourself completely when they leave – and recur in other tracks.

Why’d you leave me? Because of my depression? You used to complete me but I guess I learnt a lesson” he spits on the roiling “Midnight 01 (Deep Sea Diver),” and, even layered with the warm vocals of Okay Kaya, “Slush Puppy” is an unsparing dissection of a couple with nothing left to give, like a Gainsbourg and Birkin ballad gone toxic. Elsewhere, things only get darker, as Marshall desperately tries to find safe harbor in the city he knows and loves, only to be thwarted constantly, as on “The Cadet Leaps” and previously released single “Czech One.” Not even the synthetic high of chemicals, as shown in “Emergency Blimp” and “A Slide In (New Drugs)” can stanch the suffering.

Although seeming at first abstract, The OOZ as a title proves oddly fitting. There are references littered throughout about its physical manifestation, or as Marshall himself says, “about earwax and snot and bodily fluids and skin and stuff that just comes out of you on a day to day basis.” But it works on a more figurative level too, with The OOZ also representing the unknown depths or horizons the solitary mind can travel to, whether it’s sinking into the deep sea or soaring through the night sky. It may be messy, unwieldy, even unsightly, Marshall seems to say -- but we need The OOZ in order to exist."
