[hate5six] Algiers Presents: Shook Vs. Shook World - Live at National Sawdust (December 15, 2022)

In December, Algiers performed a special one-off gig at Brooklyn’s National Sawdust. Over two sets, the band debuted material from its new album ‘SHOOK’ alongside many of the guest-artists who appear on the record, including Amani, Big Rube, billy woods, DeForrest Brown Jr., Desde, Dreamcrusher, Elucid, Fatboi Sharif, King Vision Ultra, Latoya Kent, Maassai, Mark Cisneros, and Patrick Shiroishi.

Today you can watch the complete concert film, which was made by Hate5six. It’s a singular document – Algiers’ captured at its most visceral and exploratory in the company of the band’s extended community.

(photo: Phobymo)

Pre-order 'Historian' on limited red vinyl with original artwork

Historian, the cherished sophomore LP from Lucy Dacus celebrates its five year anniversary this month. In conjunction, Dacus unveils the first-ever “Night Shift” music video today, directed by Jane Schoenbrun (We're All Going to the World's Fair) and featuring Dacus, and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets).

The “Night Shift” video premiered last night in New York at Nitehawk Prospect Park, followed by a Q+A with Dacus and Schoenbrun, moderated by E.R. Fightmaster and Liza Anne who both had featured roles in the video, and a screening of We’re All Going To The World’s Fair.

Matador Revisionist History Podcast Episode 8: Spoon's Britt Daniel and Interpol's Paul Banks

Stream The Matador Revisionist History Podcast

Stream / Purchase Limited White LP of Spoon's 'Kill The Moonlight'

Stream Interpol's 'The Black EP'

Our core philosophy here at Matador Revisionist History HQ is “What you want, once we’re ready.” And this time, we’re really living up to that.

Last summer, we celebrated the 20th anniversaries of Interpol’s Turn on the Bright Lights and Spoon’s Kill the Moonlight – two career-defining records that were released on the very same day in August of 2002.

Around that time, front men Paul Banks and Britt Daniel huddled with our host Matt Sweeney and taped an episode of the RH podcast. Seven months later, we’re finally prepared for you to hear it.

Everybody on this episode goes way, way back: Sweeney met Daniel during Spoon’s first tour. He met Banks when Turn on the Bright Lights was released, which is around the time Banks initially met Daniel. They reminisce about NYC’s Luna Lounge, Paul explains the importance of yelling in an Interpol song, and Britt stakes his claim to the cowboy hat from the “Wild” video.
